Things keep going from bad to worse for Fisker and to compound all the financial woes its going through, it has just issued recalls for the Ocean SUV in Europe and North America.

The first recall is the most significant and poses a potential safety risk. According to the electric car manufacturer, 11,201 Oceans in the US, Canada, and Europe have a motor-control unit and vehicle-control unit software that may enter a safe-state protection mode. If this happens, the Ocean can lose power.

Fisker announced the recall in a brief press release but failed to mention whether it’s received any warranty claims related to the issue or knows of any related incidents. The fault will be resolved through an over-the-air update.

The second recall is limited to the US and Canada and involves 6,864 Ocean SUVs. To comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, all cars must have specific fonts, font sizes, and colors for warning lights on the dash. Fisker has revealed the font size it uses for the brake, park, and ABS warning indicators is too small. Additionally, the brake warning lights are amber and not red as they’re required to be. There are also issues with the operation of the tire pressure warning light.
Like the first recall, an over-the-air update can also rectify this second one.
As the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Transport Canada are still in the process of publishing the recalls on their websites, limited other details about them are known. For example, it’s unclear if the recalls impact all Ocean SUVs built or if some examples produced between specific dates have avoided issues.
Fortunately, owners won’t have to wait long for fixes as Fisker says it expects to complete the software updates by June 30.
