Ford isn’t done chasing Pikes Peak Hill Climb records just yet and has just announced its 2024 entrant: the F-150 Lightning SuperTruck. TheBlue Oval’s newest Ford Performance electric vehicle demonstrator, the SuperTruck aims to take on one of the world’s most famous hill climbs with Pikes Peak record holder Romain Dumas once again behind the wheel on June 23rd, aiming to one-up its previous SuperVan 4.2 entrant that topped the Open Class.
“After a successful 2023 climb, I’m thrilled to be behind the wheel again with this team and to help push the limits of what an electric vehicle can achieve on the turns of this legendary course,” said Dumas. “In testing, the F-150 Lightning SuperTruck has surpassed my expectations, so we are hoping for some good weather to try and do something very special.”
The Special Sauce Behind The 2024 Entrant
Wanting to move on from electric bricks, the Lightning was the perfect platform. Created in conjunction with Ford Design and STARD Advanced Research and Development, this truck is a masterclass in aerodynamic excellence, generating 6,000 pounds of downforce at 150 mph thanks to a multi-element rear wing, triple-element front splitter, headlight ducts, hood ducts, louvers, front dive-planes side diffusers, and a massive rear diffuser.

The STARD UHP 6-phase motors appear to be direct descendants of the ones used in last year’s SuperVan, with three being used in what we assume is a configuration of one in the front and two in the rear. Working in conjunction with an Ultra-High Performance Li-Polymer NMC battery, power comes out to 1,400 horsepower, which is just a baffling number no matter the vehicle. Additional performance comes courtesy of carbon ceramic brakes, Pirelli P-Zero tires on magnesium forged wheels, and a fully customized in-board suspension system.
Can It Beat The SuperVan?
“To make the best vehicles for our customers, our research takes us racing in the harshest and most challenging conditions – the F-150 Lightning SuperTruck is the latest example of that. Our pursuit to the top of the mountain is charged by the commitment to make all our electric vehicles more capable, more advanced, and more exciting.”

Acura ZDX Type S Heads To Pikes Peak Hill Climb As First Ever Electric Pace Car
It’s the first time an all-electric vehicle has served as the pace car at the infamous hill climb.
The 102nd running of the famous hill climb is shaping up to be another one for the books, with models like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N eyeing to break records of its own, and the Acura ZDX ready to strut its stuff as the first-ever fully-electric official pace car for the event. Unfortunately, the SuperVan based on the E-Transit won’t be there this time around to wow the crowds with its 2,000 horsepower electric drivetrain, but we have a feeling the Lightning is going to be a pretty great consolation prize.
