Ford Mustang GTD Shows Off Sexy New Paint And Performance At Goodwood FOS

Key Takeaways

  • Ford Mustang GTD makes its first official running appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
  • Competing in the Batch 6A class, the Mustang GTD will go up against supercars from other brands.
  • Customers can choose from an Extended Color Palette service, similar to what Rolls-Royce offers, to personalize the GTD’s paint finish.

The Ford Mustang GTD is currently touring Europe. Following an appearance at the 24 Hours of Le Mans last month, the supercar is now heading to the Goodwood Festival of Speed, where it will make its first official “running appearance” up the iconic 1.2-mile hill climb.

Participating in the Batch 6A category, Dearborn’s finest will compete against other production supercars. This is a great opportunity for Ford to show that the GTD isn’t just an overpowered Mustang but a serious contender capable of giving Porsche and Ferrari a black eye.

Taking On The Europeans On Their Home Turf

The Mustang GTD will race up the hill climb twice daily from today to Sunday. This will also expose many European gearheads to the range-topping Mustang. Even though Ford’s legendary muscle car has been officially available in Europe for several years, the GTD is unlike anything ever to wear the nameplate. With a targeted power figure of 800 horsepower from its supercharged 5.2-liter V8, it exceeds the grunt expected of a top-tier Mustang. Still, with carbon-ceramic brakes, active aero, and lightweight magnesium wheels, the GTD is designed to go around corners like the best supercars Europe can offer.

With a price tag of more than $300,000, the GTD isn’t priced like your average Ford. In keeping with the six-figure price tag, the automaker will offer customers an Extended Color Palette, allowing them to choose from thousands of distinctive paint finishes. One of these colors, Indulgent Blue, is being showcased by the Mustang GTD at Goodwood.

Exclusive Paint Finishes Are More In Line With Bentley And Rolls

Taking a leaf out of Rolls-Royce’s book, the Extended Color service requires GTD customers to share “an example of the desired color” they want for their all-American supercar. This means you can take a cherished toy car, a bottle of nail polish, or even a piece of fabric, and Ford will endeavor to recreate it for the vehicle. Before the GTD is painted, customers will get a sample of the paint to ensure it meets their standards and reacts to different lighting as expected.

When you’re entering the elite world of supercars, you need more than just performance to attract big checks.

And if you want a one-of-a-kind finish for your Mustang GTD, Ford also offers an Extended Color Palette Lock-Out Option, essentially a guarantee that the color will not be provided to any other GTD owner. There’s no word on how much this will cost, but Ford also offers the Mustang GTD with six standard paint colors if you just want a simple exterior finish. Following its stint at Goodwood, the hardcore ‘Stang will appear at Monterey Car Week in August before attempting a sub-seven-minute lap at the Nürburgring in Q4 2024.
