- Audi plans to introduce over 20 new cars in 2024-2025, starting with the new A5 lineup.
With the exception of the new Q6 e-tron and the predominantly subtle updates to most of the existing Audi lineup, Ingolstadt has been relatively quiet, with very few new models debuting in recent months. That’s all set to change in the coming year, as the Ingolstadt-based brand plans to introduce more than 20 new cars in 2024 and 2025. The marque has given us our first look at the upcoming A5 lineup, previewing the next step of its minimalist design language.
The teaser image depicts a tasteful lightbar spanning the width of a rear fascia. Three LED modules (with distinctive designs) suggest that Audi’s second-generation digital OLED rear lights will be offered on lower-rung models. On the Q6 e-tron, these sophisticated taillamps can communicate with other road users, warning them of obstacles in the road, crashes, or traffic. Typically, Audi’s design is evolutionary rather than revolutionary, with a clear link between current and preceding models.

A5 Lineup Will Grow, With New Bodystyles
The sloping rear window and roof spoiler suggest this is either a wagon or an SUV. But how can that be if this is an A5 teaser? While the current A5 lineup comprises a coupe, convertible, and Sportback, Audi has rejigged its naming system for future models. As such, the A5 range will take over from the outgoing A4, as a combustion-engined line of cars that will encompass an A5 Sportback, A5 wagon and, potentially, coupe and convertible body styles; sporty S models will also be available.

As an odd-numbered model line, the A5 will retain traditional ICE powertrains to appeal to customers who are not ready to adopt EVs. The A4 will be all-electric, with the next-generation expected to compete with the Tesla Model 3 once it arrives. While the A5 will continue to be gas-powered, Audi says the engines will benefit from electrification, aiding performance and efficiency.
“The new Audi A5 family will celebrate its world premiere on July 16 and represents the beginning of the next generation of combustion engines, which will be more efficient thanks to partially electric driving. We have a clear vision for redefining ‘Vorsprung durch Technik,’ focused on design, UI/UX, driving dynamics, and efficiency. With our new Q6 e-tron, A6 e-tron, A5, and Q5 models, we’re leaving no room for doubt about the direction we’re headed.”
– Gernot Döllner, Audi CEO
What About The Other Models?
Aside from the new A5, which will arrive on July 16, Audi will also unveil the new Q5 and A6 e-tron in the coming months. Herr Döllner says the A6 e-tron will be the first electric Audi offered in Sportback and Avant (wagon) body styles at launch. The CEO lists the range, performance, design, and efficiency as “reasons to switch to electric mobility now.”
Audi will also offer high-performance variants, such as the RS 6 we recently spied testing. As for the Q5, Audi’s best-selling model in the USA, the third generation will arrive in the fall, with electrified versions and traditional combustion engines.
