Tesla Model Y Details Leaked Ahead Of New Model’s Unveiling

The Tesla Model Y is getting ready for an update, with prototypes spotted testing on public roads. These heavily camouflaged vehicles make it difficult to see any styling changes, if any, but new images shared on Reddit now give us our first unofficial look at the Model Y update, reportedly internally codenamed Project Juniper.

If the images are credible, the Model Y will get rid of its generic taillight clusters and adopt a more fashionable lightbar with modern and classy-looking lighting elements. Unlike conventional lightbars that are illuminated from within, it appears the Model Y will use backlighting that casts light on a silver-colored bar with the Tesla lettering. Interestingly, the lettering seems to have replaced the Tesla logo on the rear fascia, much like it has on the facelifted Model 3.

Model Y Is Shaping Up To Be A Looker

Based on this leak, digital artists have already tried to envision what the revised Model Y would look like from the rear, an angle from which the new EV carries more than a passing resemblance to Rivian products and their full-width lighting panels. The rendering below incorporates the unique light bar, along with Model 3 boomerang taillights and a more prominent ducktail spoiler. Of course, this is merely a guess and doesn’t represent a production-ready Model Y.

Aside from that, the leaked images also give us a glimpse of the interior. We don’t expect radical changes inside and, based on the picture, the door trims and dashboard will remain mostly unchanged. An ambient lighting strip is visible on the interior inlays, while we can see Alcantara trim and leatherette upholstery with double stitching. In the bottom left corner, we can see what appears to be perforated seat upholstery.

Okay, So When Is The New Model Y Coming?

Not much is known about the updated version. However, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has previously said the new Model Y will not be introduced this year, which suggests a late 2024 or early 2025 unveiling. Tesla has yet to make an official announcement regarding the new Model Y, but unnamed sources have said it may arrive sooner to pick up the slack from slowed Model 3 sales.

As for the rest of the vehicle, we anticipate the front fascia will adopt the Model 3’s sleek headlights and revised bumper treatments. Hopefully, Tesla will differentiate the two models, as critics have argued that the Model Y simply looks like a tall version of the Model 3. Inside, the crossover will likely adopt the same interior revisions, including the removal of physical controls for main vehicle functions. Of course, we also look forward to improvements in the areas of range, performance, and efficiency.
