2 Big New Nissan Models Coming To America

Key Takeaways

  • Nissan teases new models during its 2024 first-quarter financial results announcement.
  • New Armada and Murano are heading to the United States soon.
  • Company President and CEO Makoto Uchida says these new models will boost profits.
  • A smaller crossover has also been teased; likely the next-generation Juke or Leaf EVs.

In recent years, Nissan and its luxury subbrand Infiniti have been in the doldrums. But both automakers are in the process of being invigorated, with new models such as the Infiniti QX80 and Nissan Kicks being joined by a new Murano, Armada, and Patrol.

The Japanese automaker has teased these new SUVs – along with another smaller crossover – during its 2024 first-quarter financial results announcement. The image doesn’t give much away but, based on the outlines, we have an inkling as to what these newcomers could be.

New Armada, Murano, Patrol, And Small Crossover On The Way

Based on appearances, the Armada will be very similar to the all-new QX80. However, we expect the Nissan to be more toned down than its upmarket sibling, with more mainstream styling and a less high-end interior. That being said, it won’t be a ‘rough ‘n’ ready’ SUV – the outgoing Armada is still very luxurious, but it can’t hold a candle to its new Infiniti sibling. We expect the new Patrol to be identical to the Armada, as the two have been the same since MY2017.

The Armada/Patrol are due for a replacement, but the Murano is even more desperate for a new generation. The current model has been on sale since 2015, with a recent update not bringing many changes to the table. Based on the silhouette in the teaser, the new Murano will boast a more rakish and exhibit a sportier design than the current model, but we don’t know much aside from that.

New Models Will Help Nissan Turn Its Fortunes Around

As for the smaller crossover, it’s unlikely that this is destined for the United States. The new Kicks will cater to budget-conscious crossover shoppers, although there may yet be space for another. The more likely explanation is that this is our first preview of the new Leaf, which is destined to morph into a crossover or the new Juke, and is expected to arrive in 2027 as an electric vehicle.

Makoto Uchida, President and CEO of Nissan Global, said the most recent financial quarter has been very challenging. However, the slew of new models will help the Yokohama-based marque return to a strong financial position. “In the United States, we are introducing the Armada, Murano, [and] Infiniti QX80. In Europe, we anticipate momentum with e-Power variants of the Qashqai, X-Trail, [and] Juke,” said the CEO, noting that the new Patrol will keep up the momentum in the Middle East. Things have been tough for Nissan, to say the least. In Q1 of the financial year 2024, the automaker saw operating profits slide by 99.2% to approximately $6.4 million, with net profits plunging by 72.9% to $184.6 million.
