Porsche Doesn’t Even Know Who’s Buying This One-Of-One 911 GT3 RS

Key Takeaways

  • Porsche has built a one-off 911 GT3 RS to honor the late Jo Siffert.
  • Siffert was a Swiss racing driver who took the Porsche 911 to its first victory in 1969.
  • The GT3 RS has a paint scheme and interior touches that pay tribute to Siffert and the 917 race car.

Buying a new Porsche 911 GT3 RS must be a special experience, but purchasing a one-off example through the Sonderwunsch bespoke program is on another level. This is the 911 GT3 RS Tribute to Jo Siffert, and it’s a wheeled celebration of its namesake and the legendary Porsche 917 he raced to victory nearly 55 years ago.

On 10 August 1969, Jo Siffert and Kurt Ahrens clinched a win in the first international 1,000-kilometer race at the Österreichring. This was a particularly important victory, as it was the 917’s first race win. Porsche worked closely with Siffert’s family to create a worthy tribute.

Sonderwunsch Program Has Created A Fitting Tribute

Painted in Pure White, the GT3 RS receives contrasting Viper Green on the front wings and front fascia. Neither of these are run-of-the-mill hues, having both being selected from Porsche’s exclusive Paint to Sample program. Viper Green can also be found on the middle section of the rear wing. Of course, it wouldn’t be a proper tribute without the ’29’ racing number, which takes pride of place on the hood, doors, and even on the valve caps and rear wing.

Even the Porsche lettering and stripes on the side sills and door were inspired by the famous 917, while Bosch and Shell sponsorship logos can be found on the car. While this is a small detail, Porsche tapped the two companies for support, and they were only happy to oblige, with period-correct logos. Another lovely touch can be found on the magnesium wheels, with the silhouette of the 917KH visible on the center lock. Siffert’s name and signature can be found on the B-pillars.

“This tribute model is an inspirational car in two senses: on the one hand, its visual design is based on the design of the 917 with which Jo Siffert and Kurt Ahrens drove to victory at the Österreichring almost 55 years ago. On the other hand, the one-off shows the extensive exterior and interior customization options that we offer as part of the Sonderwunsch program.”

One Lucky Buyer Will Be Chosen At Random

Inside, the 911 GT3 RS receives Race-Tex upholstery in Black and Guards Red, with a helmet motif embroidered into the headrests. The door sill trim has been decorated with the 917 silhouette and Siffert’s signature. Not even the key has escaped the special treatment, having been adorned with the same Pure White/Viper Green colors. This is stored in a key case with Jo Siffert’s embossed signature, which is also found on the center console.

The special edition has been presented to US onlookers for the first time.

Interestingly, the Porsche wasn’t ordered by a customer, but rather commissioned by the automaker itself. The car will be displayed at Porsche Centers across Switzerland in August before going to the Auto Zurich trade fair in November, where a buyer will be selected at random (from a pool of interested parties). Just two years after his legendary victory in the 917, Siffert was tragically killed when the BRM he was driving suffered a mechanical issue and crashed. However, his memory has been immortalized in his racing career, this wonderful Porsche one-off, and his son Philippe, who followed in his footsteps.

“To witness the creation of this Porsche in honor of my father was extremely exciting. With painstaking attention to historical details and craftsmanship of the highest quality, the employees of the Porsche Sonderwunsch Manufaktur

have transformed an already rare 911 GT3 RS into an absolutely unique piece – infused with the spirit of Jo Siffert.”

– Philippe Siffert, Jo Siffert’s son and racing driver
