Ferrari SF90 Stradale And Roma Have One Foot In The Grave

Key Takeaways

  • Ferrari’s delivery of models like Roma and 812 Competizione is decreasing as they are nearing the end of their lifecycle.
  • Models like SF90 Stradale and 812 GTS have been phased out by Ferrari.
  • Ferrari is working on replacements for discontinued models, with new hybrids and hypercars in development.

As we enter the month of August, automakers have finalized their second-quarter earnings reports. In Maranello, the latest update on Ferrari’s operations was positive once again, but the automaker also noted that some deliveries of some models are falling as they will soon be phased out. Ferrari says that the magnificent Purosangue SUV is being well received, and so are the Roma Spider and 296 GTS drop-tops, but deliveries of the regular “Roma and the 812 Competizione decreased” because both models are “approaching the end of [their] lifecycle.” Moreover, the automaker has now confirmed that the SF90 Stradale and the 812 GTS have now been “phased out.”

What Will Replace These Models?

The front-engine V12-powered Ferrari 812 line has been continued with the new Ferrari 12Cilindri, available in both coupe and Spider variants, while a replacement for the SF90 has already been spotted testing, indicating that a reveal can’t be too far away. The hardcore SF90 XX twins are now reaching customers, so while the regular model may be gone, the hybrid supercar still has some points to prove.

As for the Roma, its Spider variant was only revealed last year, but the coupe has been around since late 2019, so it’s probably time for a refresh, which usually comes with a new name when Ferrari does the updates; CarBuzz has already uncovered some potential possibilities. The most likely appears to be the name Amalfi, but we’ve also discovered several other Ferrari trademarks of late, including one for the names Mugello, Milano, and Montecarlo.

That’s Not All

Although Ferrari did not mention it in the report, we also know that a LaFerrari successor is currently in development. Reportedly internally codenamed F250, the new halo hypercar is said to come with a hybrid V6 engine, forgoing the V12 tradition in favor of more explosive power delivery, less weight, and lower emissions. This powertrain is yet to be confirmed, but since we’re already speculating, we may as well continue and draw your attention to yet more trademarks discovered by CarBuzz that seem ideally suited for a new range-topping Fezza: F80, La Rossa, and Drake. Hopefully, the phasing out of aging supercars means that a whole new range of Ferrari supercars is just around the corner.
