Batman’s New Daily Driver Is A 1,900-HP Monster With No Windshield

Key Takeaways

  • Pininfarina’s Bruce Wayne-inspired B95 Gotham special edition to make Monterey Car Week appearance.
  • $4.2 million hypercar is a mix of black and tan design elements with a unique virtual voice assistant inspired by Alfred Pennyworth.
  • One of four in a series developed in collaboration with Warner Brothers.

With the wealthy deviating from electric hypercars, special editions are the best way to draw attention again, and that’s what Pininfarina is doing with its latest creation. Although the Pininfarina Battista and its drop-top B95 sibling already offer a wealth of customization options, the words of Steve Jobs still ring true – “People don’t know what they want until you show it to them,” and so the design house is showing just how special its roofless hypercar can be with a new one-off called the B95 Gotham.

In collaboration with Warner Brothers, this unique EV is said to be inspired by Bruce Wayne, the public identity of DC Comic’s Batman, although we’re pretty sure we remember the Caped Crusader having a penchant for muscle cars, while his alter ego preferred Lamborghinis and Mercedes concepts. Nerdy nitpicking out of the way, we can focus on the message Pininfarina wants to send: “B95 Gotham reflects Wayne’s passion for cutting-edge innovation, sustainable technology, elegance, and refinement.”

The Antithesis To Nolan’s Tumbler

The Batmobile used in the Christopher Nolan trilogy, known as the Tumbler, looked and sounded angry and completely protected its occupants from all external threats, but the B95 is completely the opposite, with its inoffensive, silent powertrain and open-air cockpit. This $4.2 million special edition will be shown off during Monterey Car Week alongside three other one-off vehicles that we’ve seen before, all of which pay tribute to The Dark Knight.

This one is finished in a gloss black paint called Argento Vittorio, a color that appears on the rims and faces of the wheel spokes as a textural contrast to the matte inner finish. There’s also a brushed aluminum anodized center lock ring, and behind the wheels, Titan calipers. Inside the open cabin, tan quilted leather and tan stitching are matched with a door sill plate on the driver’s side, engraved with the words of Bruce Wayne in early comic books, “All men have limits… I ignore mine.”

At Your Service, Master Wayne

The icing on the cake is a unique display with Wayne Industries-inspired graphics and a virtual voice assistant that imitates Mr. Wayne’s doting butler and moral compass, Alfred Pennyworth. Other than that, an electric drivetrain shared with the Rimac Nevera provides AWD, a 0-62 mph sprint time of under two seconds, and a headline output figure of 1,874 horsepower – just like every other special edition that came before, and there have been several.

The hypercar wears a paint color scheme and leather interior inspired by the Lancia Florida, a car designed by company founder Battista Pininfarina.

Along with this, Mercedes has a big display, and we’ll see the most powerful naturally aspirated hypercar in the world vie for attention with the next baby Lamborghini, a lurid Rolls-Royce commission, and a selection of very special Maseratis, not to mention a one-off BMW and, most likely, another electric hypercar variant from Rimac. Monterey Car Week 2024 festivities kick off next Friday, and we simply cannot wait.
