New Lamborghini Supercar’s DNA Will Be Unmistakable

Key Takeaways

  • Lamborghini designer Mitja Bokert teases a sketch of the new Huracán replacement.
  • The silhouette resembles the Countach LPI 800-4.
  • The new baby Lambo will be unveiled on August 16 at Monterey Car Week.

Lamborghini is getting ready to unveil the all-new baby supercar, the replacement for the beloved V10-powered Huracán. The Sant’Agata Bolognese-based brand has kept things well under wraps, with nary a leak or juicy teaser hinting at the styling. Now, Lamborghini designer Mitja Bokert has given us a glimpse of an unnamed design, and it’s very likely the newcomer, predicted to be called the Temerario. The silhouette is sleek and dramatic, befitting any Lamborghini worth its badge. We can’t help but draw comparisons between the new sketch and the Countach LPI 800-4, with a steeply angled rear fascia and a sharp windscreen angle that flows into a low roofline.

Lamborghini

Automobili Lamborghini was created in 1963 after its founder had a disagreement with Enzo Ferrari over the cost of servicing his cars, arguing that Ferrari was overcharging for off-the-shelf parts. Enzo didn’t respond amicably, so Ferruccio took matters into his own hands with the 350 GT. Lamborghini later introduced the Miura, widely regarded as the first true supercar and one of the prettiest ever made. These days, the brand’s identity is characterized by AWD drivetrains, outrageous special editions, and raucous engines. The 1,001-hp Revuelto is its current V12 flagship, while the Urus SUV is its bestseller.

Adrenaline Has A Shape, Apparently

We quite like the low front splitter and apparent short rear overhangs, and it’s shaping up to be a real grown-up supercar, even as the littlest Lambo. The caption doesn’t give much away – unless you look closely. “We give adrenaline a shape,” it reads. “The unique Lamborghini Silhouette defines it all right from the start.” Interestingly, Mr. Bokert decided to capitalize ‘Silhouette’ in the caption, like a proper noun. Could this hint at the model name? We doubt it; Lamborghini representatives at the Goodwood Festival of Speed told us directly that CarBuzz would know what it is, which seems like confirmation of our abovementioned Temerario trademark discovery.

Lamborghini Won’t Do Another Retro Supercar After The New Countach

Or will it?

Instead, this is proof that the car will not stray from the exciting angular shapes that have made so many of its predecessors worthy of placement on bedroom walls. It’s also highly unlikely that Lamborghini would choose to look to the past when it has never done so before (there once was a model called the Silhouette, a mid-engine supercar powered by a V8, just like the new baby Lambo), especially since company CEO Stephan Winkelmann has expressed disinterest in looking backward ever again; the Countach was enough.

What We Know So Far

We won’t have to wait much longer for Lamborghini to reveal it all. The debut is set for August 16, with the new baby Lambo showing its face at Monterey Car Week. Last month, an image of the taillight was teased, giving us our first official look at the Temerario. The octagonal design looks great, and will likely have a clear lens if the spy shots are anything to go by.

Lamborghini Boss Drops Biggest Hint Yet Over Huracan Successor’s Power Output

We know what will power the Lamborghini Temerario, but an official power output remains a mystery. Now, we have a better idea of what to expect.

The big news is that the V10 will die with the Huracán. While that will sadden many Lamborghini enthusiasts, the V8 that will replace it sounds like an extraordinary motor. Electrified and turbocharged, the eight-cylinder will rev beyond 10,000 rpm. As for the noise, the recent teaser shows the new V8 will produce a spine-tingling noise and, while it’s not quite as intoxicating as the outgoing V10, it’s still pretty spectacular.
