America’s Favorite Tuner Has Huge Plans For The 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1

The 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is a monster just ready to terrorize the European elite. It’s a mid-engined American supercar with 1,064 horsepower from a twin-turbo 5.5-liter flat-plane V8 engine, and it’s capable of a sub-10-second quarter mile. The first units haven’t even hit the road yet, but already, John Hennessey is scheming about how to get even more power from America’s wildest Corvette ever.

Hennessey Smashes Hypercar Speed Record On The Road To 300 MPH

The 1,817-hp Hennessey Venom F5 has gone faster than Bugatti and Rimac in the half-mile, and the American hypercar wasn’t even trying that hard.

“God Bless America, God Bless General Motors”

Speaking to CarBuzz about future Hennessey developments (stay tuned for details on those soon), John Hennessey was full of praise for the ZR1. “But look, if I get an allocation, I’ll buy a ZR1 all day long,” said Hennessey.

“That kind of performance for 200 grand? God bless America. God bless General Motors and the Corvette guys!”

When quizzed about the claim from Chevrolet that the ZR1’s engine is “the most powerful V8 ever produced in America from an auto manufacturer,” despite the Venom F5’s Fury V8 producing several hundred horsepower more and being built by Hennessey (based on LS architecture with extensive modifications), John was quick to point out that while the ZR1 is impressive, what Chevrolet builds and what Hennessey builds are in different spheres.

“I love the guys that it’s Chevy, and I think we give them their due that again. We build 12 cars a year, when ZR1 goes into production, they’ll build hundreds if not thousands,” states Hennessey, continuing, “So, I think it’s fair for them to say that they have the most powerful American-built engine that is in high volume. We’re small volume. So I think that would be, that would be the delineation.”

Hennessey Wants 1,200 HP Out Of The New ZR1, And It’s Coming

Hennessey is no stranger to working on GM products, with the Corvette (current and previous iterations) and Camaro being vehicles Hennessey Performance has tuned highly in the past. Who can forget the 1,000-hp Camaro Exorcist created to banish the Dodge Challenger Demon?

The Texas tuner has given the special edition Vette supercar levels of performance.

When asked if he had a ZR1 on order, Hennessey was quick to tell us that the tuning side of his business would be working on a high-performance package for the new ZR1.

“I’ll give you a bit of a scoop: we’re going to modify the ZR1 to probably 1,200 horsepower.”

That figure is only 136 hp more than the ZR1 currently makes, but it’s a nearly 13% increase and would turn the ZR1 from something insane to something on the verge of needing to be institutionalized. We’re also certain John knows better than to overpromise and underdeliver on a car as important as this, so we wouldn’t put it past that number being a conservative one. But whatever Hennessey achieves, he’s convinced it’ll be epic: “We’ll put that news out there in the next, I don’t know, some in the near future, but we’re absolutely going to modify the ZR1 and it’s going to be an amazing car.”
