Rivian Camp Kitchen Is Finally Here, But It’s Not What You Were Hoping For

Key Takeaways

  • Rivian introduces a portable travel kitchen for R1S and R1T models, perfect for camping adventures.
  • The kitchen includes an induction stove, storage, and utensils, costing a reasonable $1,400.
  • This accessory enhances Rivian’s EVs for camping, eliminating the need for pricey camper vans.

Rivian is beloved by adventurous types, who adore the off-roading ability and wide array of accessories, such as the R2’s movie projector and rooftop tent. These features are perfect for camping, and so is the new travel kitchen that will be made available for the R1S, R1T, and upcoming Rivian models like the R2, R3, and even R3X.

Showcased by YouTuber Brian Tong, the travel kitchen comprises a nifty setup that’s perfect for cooking up a storm. It includes an integrated induction stove with two heating elements, and storage for a cutting board and utensils, among other things. There’s also a handle that can be used to store dishcloths so you can clean as you cook.

Pricey, But Worth It – For The Camping Crowd, Of Course

The travel kitchen simply affixes to the tailgate, allowing owners to cook a meal while camping. Powering the travel kitchen is simple; it plugs into the 120-volt power plug in the cargo area. When it’s not in use, owners can pack it away in a neat storage bag. And the cost of all of this? A reasonable $1,400. Rivian has yet to announce this new accessory, but CarBuzz has contacted the automaker to learn more.

$1,400 isn’t pocket change, but this accessory makes the Rivian R1S and R1T even better all-rounders for adventurous types. When bundled in with other accessories – such as the R1S three-person tent and various kitchen items – Rivian’s EVs are transformed into mobile campers, negating the need to fork out for pricey camper vans or high-end trailers.

Not Rivian’s First Attempt At A Kitchen

If this all sounds familiar, you may remember that Rivian introduced a mobile kitchen back in 2021. Called the camp kitchen, it slotted away neatly in the gear tunnel and included a cooker, space for pots and pans, a coffee pot, a 30-piece kitchen set, and even a sink for cleaning dirty dishes. While that’s more practical than the solution previewed here, Rivian chose to redesign this in 2022 to make it even better.

If you’re taking delivery of a new R1T or R1S, you may be disappointed with Rivian’s latest tech-biased decision.

It remains to be seen how this will integrate with the R1T, but we assume it will fit nearly on the tailgate. It remains to be seen whether this will be offered for the new R2 and R3 crossovers, but we assume these models will get this accessory. A similar setup was previewed on the R2 when it was revealed earlier this year.
