Porsche’s Newest Crossover Is Already Schooling BMW And Mercedes

The 2024 Porsche Macan EV has an on-sale date of September 18th and is ready to go with official CARB certification. Some keen eyes over at the Macan EV Owners forum managed to get a good look at the window stickers for both the Macan 4 and Macan Turbo, revealing the EPA-estimated range figures for Porsche’s first electric SUV before the automaker’s official announcement.

According to those Monroney Labels, the 402-horsepower Macan 4 delivers an EPA-estimated308 miles of range while the 630-hp Macan Turbo drops to 288 miles. Those are solid numbers that stack up well against the competition. It’s hardly an apples-to-apples comparison since the horsepower figures vary quite a bit, but looking at the big picture, the Macan comes out ahead.

How The Macan EV Fares Against The Competition

BMW iX

The iX xDrive 50 delivers 516-564 hp with a range of 303-309 miles per charge, which delivers more power with the same range as the base trim of the Macan, giving BMW the edge. Step up to the high-performance M60, and the story changes with a range of 284-288 miles and a maximum of 610 hp. If you’re going for maximum horsepower, then the Macan is a better bet. Unfortunately for other German rivals, the Porsche is leagues ahead.

Audi Q8 e-tron

The cheapest electric Audi Q8, which is likely to disappear soon, falls short on all counts. It offers 402 hp with an EPA-estimated range of 285 miles per charge, which is the same on output but far less on range. If you’re again looking for all the power, the Macan Turbo still handily beats the range-topping SQ8 e-tron, which only has 496 hp and a range of 253 miles.

Mercedes-Benz EQE

It’s another win on all fronts against Mercedes with EQE 350 trims delivering 288 hp and a maximum range of 302 miles. The more powerful option here is the EQE 500, which delivers 402 hp and a range of 253 miles. There’s more horsepower and more range from Porsche no matter the trim you choose this time around.

Pricing To Surprise

While it’s one thing to compare the horsepower and range so you know how far you can drive and just how much fun you’ll have getting there, pricing is another story. No matter how perfect the vehicle, it needs to be within your budget and not one of these luxury EVs is cheap. The most pricey of the lot is the BMW iX, which starts at $87,250. The Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV starts at $77,900 with the Audi Q8 e-tron coming in just behind at $77,800.

The lowest-priced entry-level option is, surprisingly, the Porsche Macan EV at $75,300. If you’re looking at buying an electric luxury SUV, the Macan EV is a pretty compelling option. It has a reasonable starting price for the segment, good range, and plenty of power. This makes the EV a fabulous addition to a lineup with a long history, and you can get your hands on one as soon as next week.
