Toyota’s Best Family Car Just Got Even Better

Toyota has rolled out a fresh batch of updates for its best family car. We’re not talking about the Highlander or even the Sequoia, but rather the Toyota Sienna minivan, updated for 2025 with a slew of style, comfort, and safety features to make it even better in a hotly-contested segment in which the Chrysler Pacifica, Honda Odyssey, and Kia Carnival provide stiff competition.

The hybrid-only Sienna sees updates across the entire trim lineup, comprising six available models:

  • LE
  • XLE
  • XSE
  • Woodland
  • Limited
  • Platinum

More Safety And Convenience Makes Sienna A Better Family Car Than Ever

Each configuration sees trim-specific updates, but Toyota has also equipped new features for all models. The most notable of which is a new Advanced Rear Seat Reminder, making its global debut on the Sienna. This radar-based system detects movement in the rear seats after the car has been exited and locked, ensuring pets and children aren’t perilously forgotten.

Additionally, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto feature as part of the Toyota Audio Multimedia system, paired with a Gen 5 wireless charger, capable of quicker charging than the previous version. When your device is connected, crisp audio is ensured with dual microphones, while there are now USB-C charge ports throughout the cabin and a USB-A in the dash.

Visually, not much changes on the outside, but new Beyond Zero badging has been added to all trims, representing the hybrid nature of the Sienna. Additionally, all but the Woodland now have access to a new Magnetic Gray exterior paint color. Inside, new finishes and color options have been availed, varying by trim level.

Trim-Specific Updates

In addition to the more sweeping changes, Toyota has upgraded every trim in some way:

  • LE – The entry-level trim now sports an eight-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia infotainment system, while the driver’s display has been updated to a seven-inch digital unit.
  • XLE – Based on the LE, the XLE gets the same seven-inch driver display, but the main touchscreen is the full 12.3-inch experience we’ve loved in other models like the new 4Runner and Tacoma. The front seats are trimmed in SofTex while the rear seats are Toyota’s Super-Long-Slide captain’s chairs.
  • XSE – The XSE is similarly specced to the XLE but features blacked-out exterior trim for the elements around the windows, upper grille, and door handle overlays, with a trim-specific mesh grille. The cabin is enhanced with a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. This model also features a sport-tuned suspension.
  • Woodland – This outdoor-focused trim gets the same blacked-out design details but rides on a new rugged-design 18-inch alloy wheel finished in matte black. It also features Woodland-branded all-weather floor and cargo mats. Available solely in Cypress, Cement, or Midnight Black Metallic paints.
  • Limited – Like the XSE without the styling upgrades, you get the same 12.3-inch instrument cluster, but also access to the optional Vacuum & FridgeBox, making it easier to store chocolates and cool drinks and tidy up the messes family life generates with a vacuum built into the center console.
  • Platinum – Here, the Vacuum & FridgeBox combo is baked in as standard, but externally, new bi-tone wheels set the Platinum apart.

An Unchanged Powertrain Is Still A Mileage King

The only area that remains entirely unchanged is the Sienna’s powertrain. Under the hood, the 2.5-liter hybrid four-cylinder engine is paired with an eCVT, and the option of either FWD or AWD. Total outputs are still a combined 245 horsepower, necessitating only regular unleaded gas. In front-wheel drive form, the Sienna champions fuel economy with EPA-estimated figures of 36/36/36 mpg city/highway/combined, while the all-wheel drive variant sacrifices only a smidge, achieving 34/36/35 mpg.

Pricing Unconfirmed, But No Major Changes Expected

Toyota has yet to reveal pricing for the 2025 Sienna, but we don’t expect major changes here. The 2024 model ranged from $37,685 to $53,905, which is where we expect the new model year to stay. While some rivals haven’t detailed pricing structures for the new model year, the 2025 Honda Odyssey has, dropping its base EX trim and increasing prices marginally across the rest of the range.

The Toyota Sienna now faces stiffer competition than ever, with the updated Pacifica extending hybrid availability. The 2025 Kia Carnival received a stylistic update and introduced a new hybrid powertrain while maintaining a lower price than the 2024 Sienna, and the Honda Odyssey has also been updated for the new model year, meaning competition in the segment is tougher than ever.
