This 6-Wheeled Porsche Pickup Truck Is A Purist’s Nightmare

Despite being one of the most successful sports cars in the automaker’s history, the Porsche 944 isn’t exactly the model that will excite purists. But if there’s one model that would irk them more, it would be this – a 944 with six wheels and a pickup body. The German marque won’t likely make a truck in the foreseeable future, but if you fancy seeing one, this might be the closest to the real thing.

Located in Porsche’s own backyard in Karlsbad, Germany, this 944 pickup truck is certainly unique, particularly with its three axles with 17-inch BBS wheels from a 993-generation 911. The front-end is an S2 version of the 944 but fitted with 924 headlights. The body is painted in Continental Orange color with stripes and other racy decals.

2,500 Hours Of Conversion Work

While not as good-looking as the 944 Safari build we’ve seen before, there was an incredible amount of effort in completing this pickup conversion. It took 2,500 hours of work to finish it, which happened in stages within 26 years. That’s quite a lot of time, even surpassing Larry Chen’s SR20-swapped Datsun 240Z, which took 20 years to complete. The car itself had two owners, but the seller was the one who had it converted in 1996.

Apart from the targa roof, the tailgate of this Porsche pickup is also removable, showing an oak floor loading area with an aluminum storage box for the roof. Inside, the black and orange theme continues, with the custom two-seat cabin housing a seemingly well-maintained condition despite having already run 15,499 kilometers or 9,631 miles.

At Least It’s A Manual

Powering this Porsche 944 truck conversion is a 3.0-liter four-pot mill from a newer 968, which makes 240 horsepower. Unlike Hennessey 6×6 trucks that run on all three axles, we highly doubt this one runs on all six wheels, though the listing doesn’t mention which of the three axles moves the car. At least it comes with a manual transmission, so that’s one redeeming factor about this unusual creation.

If you’re interested in taking home this Porsche pickup, maybe to annoy your Porschephile buddy, it’s currently up for auction at Kickdown, but it doesn’t come cheap. Listed a day ago, it has a starting bid of 99,990 euros or around $112,000 at the current exchange rates. That’s a bit too much, but that would give you access to the most unique Porsche the world has ever seen.
