Man Out On Bail For Damaging 75 Cars At Dealership Now Accused Of Multi-Car Crash

  • Authorities in Maine say they arrested a man suspected of vandalizing 75 cars at a local dealer. .
  • Just hours after the arrest, he posted a $150 bail bond and was released back to the streets.
  • Shortly after his release, he allegedly caused a multi-vehicle crash and was arrested once again.

People do strange things and Skyler Henson, 25, of Auburn, Maine might be a great example of that. Authorities believe that he damaged some 75 cars on a car dealer lot, went to jail, was released and then crashed a car into several other vehicles just days later. Now, he’s back in detention but without bail.

All of this began at around 4:00 a.m. on Saturday morning when a caller to police described a man damaging vehicles. Both of them were reportedly at Rowe Auburn on Center Street in Auburn. When officers arrived, they allegedly found Henson swinging a backpack full of weights and using it to damage cars in the lot.

The dealer told Bangor Daily that the young man caused between $80,000 and $90,000 worth of damage. Authorities took him into custody and a judge initially set his bond at $5,000. The same judge then lowered his bond to $150 under the condition that he remained under house arrest. Evidently, that’s not what the suspect did, as he reportedly took off in his parent’s car and drove to Lewiston.

Police claim that he caused a multi-vehicle crash on Tuesday evening around 7:30 p.m. He allegedly fled the scene, hitting additional cars in the process. Authorities eventually tracked the 25-year-old to Lisbon Street, where they arrested him again He’s now back in jail with no bail available. The judge in the case, Sarah Churchill, ordered a mental evaluation for Henson to determine if he is fit to stand trial.

According to the Sun Journal, Churchill was also the judge in a similar, but far more tragic, case earlier this year. She had reduced bail for a man arrested for domestic assault and probation violations. After his release, the man allegedly burned down two houses—one with a person inside—and later died in a shootout with police.
