Geely-owned Lynk & Co’s second EV is expected to launch in Europe this fall

- Undisguised images of the electric SUV have already been revealed by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
- The Z20 (Z02 in China) is closely related to the Zeekr X, Volvo EX30 and new-generation Smarts.
Geely’s push into Europe steps up a gear this fall with the launch of the Z20 from its Lynk & Co brand. The second Lynk-branded EV is rumoured to be making its European debut this October, and if that’s the case it’ll be a star attraction at that month’s Paris Motor Show, before moving on to China’s Guangzhou Auto Show the following month, where it will likely carry Z02 badges.
China’s ever-helpful Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) recently spoiled Lynk & Co’s surprise by publishing images and some technical details in advance of the official reveal, and now our spy photo team has captured two prototypes of the electric SUV undergoing some final checks.

If you’re thinking it looks familiar you’re probably thinking of the X from fellow Geely brand, Zeekr. The two EVs are close cousins, sharing the same platform and even some major styling details. The front-end and waistline treatments are incredibly close, although the two cars do have entirely different hood and doors skins.
The biggest difference is at the rear. Lynk’s Z20 is a crossover-style SUV with a sloping fastback and taillights built into a Gurney flap spoiler at the base of the rear window, while the Zeekr X goes for a more upright tail with smoothly integrated lights.
According to MIIT data, the Z20’s wheelbase is 2,755 mm (108.5 inches), compared to 2,750 mm (108.3 inches) for the Zeekr X. The Lynk also measures 4,460 mm (175.6 inches) long, only 10 mm (0.4 inches) bigger than its Zeekr counterpart. Other Geely products using the same Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) platform include the Volvo EX30 and Smart #1 and #3, the Z20 slotting between the two Smarts in terms of size, and coming in bigger than the Volvo.
MIIT info only confirms one Z20 powertrain setup, a single 335 hp (340 PS / 250 kW) motor. But since the Zeekr X, Volvo EX30, and both Smarts are available with a choice of one or two motors and up to 422 hp (428 PS / 315 kW), we imagine Lynk & Co will follow the same path.
