Mitsubishi’s Q3 Sales Surge 42% With Soon To Be Axed Mirage Soaring 152%

  • Mitsubishi’s sales reached 82,817 vehicles in the U.S. during the first nine months of 2024.
  • Sales of the Outlander Sport, Outlander, Outlander PHEV, and Eclipse Cross all rose in Q3.
  • The affordable Mirage hatchback and sedan have been discontinued for the 2025 model year.

Mitsubishi bucked the trend of many rivals in the U.S. through the third quarter, posting a huge increase in sales. The growth has also significantly outpaced the overall market trend.

During Q3 2024, Mitsubishi shifted 31,588 vehicles in the United States, an impressive 42% increase from the 22,196 units it sold in Q3 of 2023. Year-to-date sales are also up, rising by 22.1% from 67,736 units in the first nine months of last year to 82,817 units this year. To put these figures into a broader context, overall light vehicle sales in the US fell 0.5% in Q3, and year-to-date sales are only up 3%.

So, what was the secret to Mitsubishi’s success? The humble Mirage. Yep, the Mirage hatchback and sedan have been axed for the 2025 model year, but it’s going out with a bang, despite the current-generation model being around since 2011. The Japanese carmaker shifted 10,162 units of the Mirage in Q3. That’s a 152% increase from the 4,028 sold in Q3 2023. Year-to-date sales are also up 114% from 9,344 units to 20,024.

It’s no secret that millions of Americans have been hit by rising inflation and cost of living increases. It’s hardly a surprise then that one of the cheapest new cars in the country has been selling well. Prices for the outgoing 2024 Mirage start at $16,695.
