Infiniti Sales Drop 13% But QX50 Keeps Climbing

  • Infiniti sold 16,544 vehicles in the third quarter of 2023, down from 14,540 a year ago.
  • The QX50 is performing well for the brand, with sales rising 10.1% in the first nine months.
  • Overall, Infiniti’s sales are down 12.8% year-to-date, reflecting broader market challenges.

Like many other car manufacturers in the US, neither Q3 nor the first nine months of 2024 have been good for Infiniti, with the luxury arm of Nissan reporting a 12.8% year-to-date decline in new vehicle sales across the country.

Infiniti has sold 42,567 vehicles during the first nine months of the year, down from the 48,830 units it sold over the same period last year. Things weren’t any better in the third quarter as sales dropped 12.1% from 16,544 in Q3 2023 to 14,540 units.

Sales of all but one Infiniti model are down this year. In 2024, Infiniti has shifted 4,138 Q50s, a 17.6% decline from the same period last year, while sales of the Q60 have dropped 94.6% from 936 units to just 51. That’s hardly a surprise as the Q60 was axed after the 2022 model year but tells us there are still some sitting on dealership lots waiting to be sold.

Elsewhere, sales of the QX55 are down 32.8% year-to-date and 37.8% in the third quarter to just 882 units. Demand for the brand’s most popular model, the QX60, has also fallen. From January to September, 20,355 examples found new homes, a 9.2% decline from the 22,424 sold over the same time last year. Sales were also down 8.1% in Q3 from 7,554 units to 6,941. Additionally, 19.7% fewer QX80s have been sold this year than 2023.

The only vehicle performing well for the brand is the QX50. This year, sales have increased from 7,153 units to 7,877, a 10.1% increase. Sales were particularly strong in Q3 and rose 11.7% from 2,435 units to 2,721. Despite this, earlier reports suggest Infiniti might not release a follow-up to the current QX50 and QX55, meaning the two models could be axed from August 2026. Although sales of the QX50 have jumped in 2024, they’ll still end the year well down on the 20,885 units sold in 2020 and the 19,196 that were sold in 2021.
