Audi Has Slyly Revealed It Plans To Debut The Q6 Sportback In Paris

Audi is planning to bring the Q6 Sportback e-tron EV to the Paris Motor Show. The German automaker has confirmed that Paris will be the first appearance of its more stylish electric crossover through a teaser slipped into an announcement heralding the standard Q6 e-tron’s results in European safety tests.

Sportback Trades Style For Cargo Space

Sportback is the term Audi uses to describe the more stylish versions of its SUVs. BMW and Mercedes-Benz both use Coupe and SUV to differentiate the two in their own lines, but since neither one is anything like a coupe, Audi’s naming makes more sense.

Whatever you call it, the differences are small. Most of the changes happen behind the front seats, where the Sportback has that sleek roofline that arguably adds to the stylishness of the design. The SUV gets more cargo space instead as its square roof continues rearward. In the case of the similarly-sized Q5 models, the SUV has 26 cubic feet of cargo space versus 25 in the Sportback.

One other benefit, and it is an important one for electric e-tron models, is efficiency. Audi’s Sportbacks cut through the air more cleanly than the standard models, often helped further by a lack of roof racks, so the Q6 Sportback e-tron will probably offer a bit more range than the standard Q6’s 307-mile max.

Audi confirmed that the Q6 Sportback e-tron would launch in Paris for the first time on October 14th, depending on your time zone. Audi calls it one minute after midnight central European time, which is 6pm on the 13th if you’re on the U.S. Atlantic coast.

S models of the two Q6 e-tron electric variants will also follow, and all should go on sale in 2025.

Quicker S, Off-Road Q6 Models Also Expected

The crossover-coupe Q6 will likely use the same electric powertrain as the more upright Q6 e-tron as both are based on the PPE platform shared with Porsche. The Q6 e-tron offers 83 kWh and 100 kWh battery packs along with 456 horsepower in standard form and up to 509 horsepower in SQ6 form.

Audi is also planning what looks like a more rugged Dakar-style version of the Q6 Sportback. We spotted the lifted and big-tired off-road variant that joins a segment including the Porsche 911 Dakar and Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato in testing earlier this year but have limited information about the model. This off-road Q6 Sportback could also make its debut in Paris, though Audi could also be holding it for a later show like the L.A. Auto Show in November.
