This Jeep Wrangler 392 Costs As Much As A Track-Ready AMG GT63 Pro

Folks with around $200,000 to burn have lots of choices when it comes to cars. There’s the $197,200 Porsche 911 Turbo or the $190,000 Aston Martin Vantage, and even Mercedes-AMG will do you a GT63 Pro for around 195 large. But if your automotive predilections are Jeep-shaped, you’ll probably have to look to the aftermarket to hit that double-century mark. If that sounds alright to you, Mecum’s auction in Glendale, Arizona, this weekend has the lot for you. A 2024 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 Final Edition is crossing the block with an estimated sale price between $180,000 and $200,000, and with that big of a price tag, it’s got some modifications to speak of.

This Is No Ordinary Hemi-Powered Wrangler

The Rubicon 392 is already a pretty special member of the Wrangler family. With a 6.4-liter V8 stuffed under the off-roader’s narrow hood, the 392 shoves 470 horsepower to all four wheels. Thanks to that prodigious output, the Wrangler 392 hits a top speed of 112 miles per hour and hits 60 in 4.5 seconds – nearly as quick as the Dodge Challenger 392 with the same engine. In addition to what is possibly the world’s best-sounding V8, the flagship Rubicon also gets standard 35-inch tires, as well as the full-floating Dana 44 front and rear axles with locking differentials found in the regular Rubi.

However, the 2024 Wrangler 392 Final Edition crossing the block at the March 22 Mecum auction is even more aggressive than stock. Now rolling on Dynatrac eight-lug axles with front and rear ARB air lockers, the Rubicon in question also features a TeraFlex 4.5-inch suspension lift with piggyback shock absorbers and RockJock front and rear sway bars. Massive, 42-inch tires wrap the 17-inch beadlock wheels, giving the SUV a mean, meaty stance. Other supporting upgrades include boosted steering, heavy-duty half shafts, robust bump stops, and satin-clear paint protection film on the whole exterior.

Then There’s The Matter Of Taste

The comprehensive hardware updates undeniably take a bitchin’ off-roader and make it cooler. The Wrangler Rubicon 392 also looks pretty awesome, with a stance not unlike an Icelandic super truck thanks to those 42-inch tires mounted at each corner. But there’s something a little off-putting about a $200,000 Jeep Wrangler – no matter how robust the underbody upgrades and paint protection are, wouldn’t you be a little worried to take an SUV that costs as much as a nice house in Ohio somewhere it might get dinged up by brush or a rocky outcrop?

That’s why the aggressively immaculate condition of this thing would give us some pause. If it were our $200,000, we’d be tempted to start with a rougher example, something with a few pre-installed dents and scratches that would ease the sting of accidentally slipping off a rock and tearing off a fender. Perhaps a salvage-title car would be best for a hardcore off-road application. But then again, buyers with that amount of money to spend on a Jeep probably have an equally impressive reserve to handle repairs as they happen.

Or maybe they’ll just be mall crawlers.
