Almost All Of Jeep’s First Luxury EVs Will Dazzle You For The Wrong Reasons

The roll-out of the Jeep Wagoneer S hasn’t been the smoothest. The pricey, but powerful, electric SUV had a slow year of sales last year, highlighted by heavily discounted examples at dealers. This month, it now has a recall for what must be a major portion of the production run from its start last March through January of this year. There’s a silver lining, though. It’s a simple fix for a more minor problem, and it reveals that the Wagoneer S seems to be selling better than last year.

Jeep

Jeep is an off-road SUV brand with roots dating back to World War II when off-roaders were known as jeeps (from GP or General Purpose vehicles). Willys-Overland Motors took the concept mainstream by launching versions for the public to buy, and the brand has built a reputation of being te purest off-road-focused brand ever since. Iconic models like the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee have been staples in the lineup, and the brand currently lays claim to having the best-selling plug-in hybrid in America, the Wrangler 4xe.

Headlights Need Adjustment

The recall issued for the Wagoneer S covers 2024 and 2025 model year Jeeps built from March 21 of last year to January 29 of this year. Apparently they were built with headlights that had the wrong adjusters accessible. The vertical adjusters were covered and not accessible, while the horizontal ones seemed to have the opposite problem. As such, many of these SUVs could have improperly adjusted lights that could blind oncoming traffic and increase the chances of a crash.

The fix is pretty simple. Owners will be able to bring their SUVs to the dealer to have the correct covers fitted and the headlights properly adjusted. Naturally, the fix will be of no cost to the owner. Owners can also contact Chrysler at 1-800-853-1403 with any questions about the recall. The reference code for the recall is 23C.

It Seems Like Wagoneer S Sales Are On The Rise

One of the interesting aspects of this recall is the number of vehicles involved. The total is 3,919. At the end of last year, Stellantis reported that it had only sold 231 examples of the Wagoneer S in the US. Canada isn’t hiding a huge stockpile of them, either. It only reported sales of 13 last year. As such, it seems that Jeep must finally be moving its first full-electric vehicle in the US. We’re sure both Stellantis and dealers are glad. Aside from those numbers, major discounts were applied to the Wagoneer S last year to move inventory. We saw some as high as $13,000. It’s certainly possible that these sales are being spurred by discounts, so average transaction prices may still be down, but moving inventory is still progress. The introduction of a cheaper Limited trim level should also help bring in customers, as well as the federal EV tax credit if it sticks around.
