Audi’s M3 Fighter Arriving By The Summer With Much More Power

We’ve spotted the latest version of the Audi RS5 out for testing in multiple forms. Sedan, Sportback, and even Avant station wagon have all been seen on the road. Now we’ve learned that we might see the new M3-fighters in stores sooner than expected.

All-Wheel Drive

Base Trim Horsepower

444 HP @6700 RPM

Base Trim Torque

442 lb.-ft. @ 4700 RPM

A new report says dealers have already been shown the new RS5 models. The hot Audis, which will not take the costly downsizing risks of their Mercedes-AMG competition, could make their debut before the end of June.

Audi Dealers Have Already Seen The Hot Compact

According to the report from The Supercar Blog, Audi dealers have seen the new model already. It was revealed to them at a private event, though no images have yet surfaced to show us anything more than what we’ve already seen.

The same report confirms other details we’ve suspected about the RS5’s power. Namely, that it will still come with a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6. This time around, the engine will make 434 horsepower, according to the report. That’s actually 10 horsepower less than the current RS5, but don’t fret over lower performance.

The name may change, but the idea of a fast wagon with a menacing footprint will live on.

That’s because the RS5 will be a plug-in hybrid. That extra electrical system will add 174 horsepower, and the report claims the total output will be more than 600 hp. That’s not enough to match the 671 hp of the C63, but the Audi will have something the AMG doesn’t: two extra pistons pumping under the hood. Sure, it’s not a V8, but at least it won’t be a very unpopular four-cylinder.

The CarBuzz spy photographers who have captured images of the various new RS5 models testing say that it has “a great sound coming from out of those oval exhaust pipes,” and that, really, is what matters.

New RS5 Models Will Be Stuck With Bad Names

Audi’s new RS5 models will also be in the confusing position of being called 5. The RS5 sedan and wagon are cars that would have been called the RS4 up until Audi’s second-most-recent name scheme change. That’s the one where it decided EVs would have even numbers (A4, A6, etc) and gas would be odd. It has since changed back, leaving the A4 and A5-series cars as the only ones affected.

Just look at the size of those tips!

With the RS5 now expected to make its debut before the end of June, it will likely be at dealers well before the end of 2025. In Europe, at least. Models from the German automakers generally show up at home first, arriving stateside a few months later. Partly to meet home demand first, partly because of the longer shipping times to cross the Atlantic.
