Genesis X Concepts Look So Close To Production

Since 2021, Genesis has been rolling out multiple iterations of its X concept. We’ve seen coupe, convertible, pseudo-shooting brake, and special speedster versions. Every single one has looked amazing, and we’ve been begging Genesis to finally build at least one of them. This week, we’re seeing coupe and convertible versions, and they look extremely close to being production-ready. Combined with rumors of production being confirmed, we want to get our hopes up. And yet, Genesis is still calling these cars, concepts. We’re hoping the brand is just previewing the final product, because we’re getting tired of being teased with drop-dead gorgeous luxury two-doors.

Genesis

Genesis was initially launched as a Hyundai vehicle model – the Genesis sedan in 2004 – but in 2015, it became a standalone luxury brand in the same vein as Toyota’s Lexus or Honda’s Acura. Since then, the G90 has become a symbol of Korean luxury in a German-dominated premium market, and with new plans to take on the likes of AMG with a Magma performance sub-brand, Genesis is showing no signs of slowing.

Still Beautiful, But More Plausible

The two cars shown this time are called the X Gran Coupe Concept, and the X Gran Convertible Concept. We have technically seen coupe and convertible X concepts before, and like those concepts, these are still long, low, wide, and oozing elegance. But there are notable differences. These have versions of the Genesis parallel headlights that look closer to existing models, and they don’t split around the grilles. For that matter, the convertible now has a conventional grille, instead of just a solid panel. The pillars on each look thicker and more like a real car than the past concepts. There are other production-style details such as door handles and even exhaust tips, which are integrated into the rear bumper. This part is interesting, as past concepts were supposedly electric. Genesis says these concepts are based on the G90 flagship sedan, so presumably these feature the same twin-turbo V6 as that car. For reference, the G90 makes 375 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque in standard guise, and 409 horsepower and 405 pound-feet of torque with the electric supercharger.

The Inside Is Astounding

The past Genesis X concepts had relatively basic interiors. The exterior design was the main focus. That’s not the case with these. These two have opulent, richly detailed cabins, which also suggest these cars are close to production. The general design of the dashboard is nearly the same as that of the G90 sedan, though the instrument display is now fully surrounded by the dash. Its the finishing that really impresses. The convertible, which is themed around wine and grapes, gets indigo-colored leather on every surface. Even the wood has a blueish stain. The convertible shows the rear seats are bucket-style and look nearly as comfortable as the front ones. The rear cowls on the top cover are even finished in the same indigo color. The coupe takes inspiration from olive trees. The interior is green and tan, and features olive wood veneers with olive leaf motifs. Like the convertible, it also features quilted leather, but on the roof liner in addition to the seats. We certainly hope Genesis has green-lit these cars, because we want to spend time looking at them and sitting in them in reality.
