Bentley Takes Two-Tone Finishes To A Whole New Level

Bentley has just developed a new way to paint its vehicles. The gradual fade between two main colors takes more than 70 hours for the company’s experts to apply, along with help from artist Stephen Selzer.

For its first use of the new technique, Bentley is feeling generous. It will apply it to three unique Bentayga Victoris models that will be sold by its Dallas dealer to benefit three children’s health charities.

Two-Tone Fade Gives These SUVs A Cool Effect

It’s a fascinating effect. At first glance, the transition from light to dark is a sharp one, occurring at the bodyline that swoops up over the Bentayga’s rear door and into the rear fender. But it’s easy to miss where the ombre effect really starts, which is actually far ahead, along the front fender of the car.

The upper body remains in the base color, which in the case of these three are Candy, Moonbeam, and Anthracite. The lower shades, Cricketball, Anthracite, and Extreme Silver, gradually fade in before becoming the solid color over the lower half of the body.

The proceeds will benefit children’s education.

Done in Bentley’s Excellence Centre for Paint in Crewe, the company says each vehicle takes 70 hours of dedicated work. This doesn’t use just two paint tins; there are multiple pre-tinted shades, each of which has to go over exactly the right bits of bodywork.

Bentley says it requires extensive masking, custom stencils, and perfect alignment of bumpers, door handles, and other parts. It claims accuracy for all three is within 2 mm.

Special Models Headed To Dallas Dealer

The designs, collectively called Victoris, come from artist Stephen Selzer. Each car has a Victoris D pillar badge in chrome and black, while the 22-inch wheels are also special to the models. Inside, the red SUV is black with white hide, the silver car is black with saddle brown plus carbon trim, and the black car is cricket ball and black inside.

Bentley Dallas, which commissioned the three Bentaygas, expects to net $75,000 from the sale of the trio. That money will be donated to three Dallas-area charities, the Children’s Cancer Fund, Cook Children’s Medical Centre, and Children’s Health.

“The message of Victoris is the triumph of resilience over adversity. We hope to inspire owners to support our initiative and promote victories in the lives of children battling life-changing challenges,” said dealer president Hesham Algaghil.

Pimp my… Sorry, bespoke my ride.

Bentley didn’t mention that it would build more with this new dual-tone paint method, but we’re certain it will. Bespoke is sort of the brand’s thing, after all.

Each of the three Victoris Bentaygas started with a Bentayga V8 – the 4.0-liter twin-turbo model – making 542 horsepower and 568 lb-ft of torque, but we doubt most buyers of this sort of vehicle care as much about the performance as the prettiness.
