Facelifted Cupra Formentor And Leon Will Pack New Tech And Updated Powertrains

  • Cupra will introduce the facelifted Formentor and Leon on April 29.
  • Both models will receive a Tavascan-inspired makeover that largely focuses on the front end.
  • Besides styling tweaks, we can expect improved technology and updated plug-in hybrid powertrains.

Cupra is gearing up to introduce the facelifted Formentor and Leon at a Design Obsession event on April 29. The company is keeping details under wraps, but said the models will embrace their new design language as well as “incorporate the latest eHybrid technology, greater digitalization and sustainability features.”

var adpushup = window.adpushup = window.adpushup || {que:[]};
adpushup.que.push(function() {
if (adpushup.config.platform !== “DESKTOP”){

}
else{

} });

While that isn’t much to go on, the Formentor was previewed at an Unstoppable Impulse event in 2022 and has been spied numerous times since then. As a result, the design isn’t much of a surprise as the model will adopt a Tavascan-inspired front fascia which trades a traditional grille for a massive air intake.

The model will also be equipped with new headlights that feature triangular daytime running lights. Speaking of lights, the teaser image shows new taillights and an illuminated Cupra logo. We can also expect a lightly revised rear bumper.

Powertrain details remain elusive, but Cupra hinted at upgrades to the plug-in hybrid variant. It currently has a 1.4-liter TSI engine, a 12.8 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, and an electric motor. This setup gives the crossover a combined output of 201 hp (150 kW / 204 PS), which enables it to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 7.8 seconds and travel up to 36.7 miles (59 km) on electricity alone.

Besides the crossover, Cupra will introduce the facelifted Leon and Leon Sportstourer. The company said we can expect “significant enhancements to the design, driving dynamics and technology – transformative impulses that challenge the status quo.”

Marketing hyperbole aside, the model will feature a Tavascan-inspired front fascia with a mustache-like air intake. They’ll be joined by new lighting units that have triangular accents.

Like the Formentor, Cupra suggested the Leon plug-in hybrids will be getting an upgrade. They currently have outputs of 201 hp (150 kW / 204 PS) and 242 hp (180 kW / 245 PS).
