New Kia EV3 Will Be Revealed On May 23

After months of waiting, Kia has finally confirmed the release date of the all-new EV3. This compact electric crossover will rival the Alfa Romeo Junior, Volvo EX30, and Jeep Avenger EV. The EV3 will debut on May 23, when we finally get to see the crossover in full. In the meantime, Kia has treated us to some teaser images of the newcomer.

The EV3 has taken design inspiration from larger Kia models, with plenty of influence from the EV9 and the EV5, the latter of which isn’t coming to America. The boxy and upright styling translates well onto a smaller package, with Kia’s signature Boomerang-shaped headlights tacked onto the front end. A clamshell hood, chunky black wheel arch trim, and front bumper garnish can also be seen.

EV9-Inspired Styling Works Well On A Compact Crossover

The rear fascia features horizontal taillights that flow into the tailgate. A tasteful lighting signature has been applied to the rear lamps, linked by a gloss black bar. A rearview camera is positioned in the middle, with the Kia badge sited just beneath. The taillights have been cleverly integrated into a black panel on the C-pillar connected to the glass. This creates the illusion of a floating roof.

Kia adds that the EV3 will boast Star Map lighting. The company’s ‘Opposites United’ design language (as seen on the recently facelifted Carnival) will spawn another good-looking car. Kia hasn’t strayed too far from the original concept design, which should help it stand out in a sea of dreary crossovers. As for the interior, we can expect recycled and sustainable materials, which are in keeping with the vehicle’s persona.

Drivetrain And Pricing

Kia hasn’t shared additional details but notes the EV3 will “accelerate the global EV transition by providing a more accessible solution for customers considering the switch to electric mobility.” Furthermore, the compact electric vehicle will be well-equipped, offer plenty of tech, and strong performance.

Pricing and powertrain details have not been provided, but the EV3 may borrow the single-motor setup from the Kia EV5, with the E-GMP platform as its basis. There, the setup provides 215 horsepower, 229 lb-ft of torque, and a 58 kWh battery. A GT model, if planned, could approach 300 hp. As for pricing, we expect details to be shared on May 23 but predict the entry point to be around $30,000-$35,000.
