BMW Launching 14 Vehicles And Model Variants This Year

BMW recently had its annual shareholder meeting and announced it plans to release 14 new models and variants over the next year, followed quickly by the Neue Klasse and Neue Klasse X arriving in 2025 and 2026 respectively. These models will help to transition the brand toward the future of mobility, showcasing BMW’s innovative approach to electric mobility, digitalization, and sustainability.

Most importantly, these models will see the brand expand its technology and capabilities, offering exciting new electric, plug-in hybrid, and even hydrogen products that will help set it apart from its competitors. All new models will experience innovations of the Neue Klasse regardless of their drivetrain, allowing the company to keep a cohesive design language and offer compelling technology as well.

Models And Variants

While CEO Oliver Zipse didn’t highlight every model the brand is planning on unveiling, he did touch on a few of the most important ones. The biggest release of the year will surely be the 5 Series and 5 Series Touring, which are set to be unveiled this summer and will go on sale in stages with the sedan arriving first.

Zipse believes that PHEV variants will be popular sellers, potentially accounting for 20% of 5 Series sales in Europe. The M5 Touring will likely be a popular vehicle here in the US thanks to its hybrid setup too. There’s also the upcoming X3, which will debut in the US with similar combustion engines as before but will say goodbye to the ‘i’ suffix on its trim names like the rest of the lineup.

This model will be sold as a plug-in hybrid abroad, but it won’t come to the US unless the brand sees a reason to bring it later in the vehicle’s life cycle. The other BMW touched on, the 1 Series, has no hope of making its way to the US since it left our shores 10 years ago.

Local Investment In Future Vehicles

Once the Neue Klasse models arrive, we can expect six other Neue Klasse vehicles within 24 months of the start of production. These will be built at plants around the world in places like Hungary, Mexico, and China. The company believes that a regional focus is important to its future efforts, especially as access to raw resources and competition is heating up with the Biden administration has announcing massive tariffs on Chinese-built EVs. The European Union is currently considering similar moves.
