A digital artist took inspiration from the VW ID. Code Concept that debuted recently in China to give birth to a new Scirocco for the electric age

The VW Scirocco ceased production in 2017 without a direct successor planned, leaving fans of the nameplate longing for its return. Rendering enthusiast Theottle has resurrected the model in a fully electric form, incorporating contemporary styling cues from Volkswagen’s latest design language while preserving the three-door hatchback body style of its predecessor.
The renderings are based on the discontinued third-gen Scirocco, in a quest to retain its familiar silhouette. However, the entire bodywork has been redesigned, using elements from the VW ID. Code Concept. The electric crossover debuted a few weeks ago at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show, introducing VW’s new styling language for Chinese-bound EVs.

At the front, the Scirocco ditches its grille, opting for a cleaner and less aggressive EV stance. The full-width LED headlights and illuminated VW emblem are directly sourced from the SUV concept, along with the slightly redesigned bumper.
On the profile, the sculpted bodywork of the original is gone, replaced by more conventionally pronounced fenders and a sharp character line. The wheel arches, side skirts, and lower bumper fascia feature cladding reminiscent of crossovers, a trend that has recently expanded to include more electric vehicle body types.

The rear end is tailored to the three-door hatch silhouette, showcasing slim horizontal LEDs, a narrow rear windshield, a small tailgate, and a minimalist bumper. From this angle, the modern-day Scirocco bears resemblance to a sleeker version of the smaller VW ID.2all hatchback, boasting sportier proportions due to its lower and wider stance.
According to the latest reports, VW is considering bringing back the Scirocco from the dead in the form of a fully electric sports car. The model is rumored to utilize a modified version of the PPE architecture, boasting dual electric motors and promising sharp driving dynamics.
With no official information about the potential revival and no sign of development prototypes, all we can do is hope that the finished product will live up to the legacy of previous iterations of the Scirocco, dating back to the 1974 original.
