Rare Laguna Seca Blue BMW E46 M3 With Low Miles Costs More Than A New M4

  • This is one of just 19 E46 M3s in this configuration in North America.
  • Powering the sports car is an S54 3.2-liter naturally aspirated inline-6 rated at 333hp.
  • It has covered just 29,000 miles (46,670 km) so far since new.

This 2004 BMW M3 might be the perfect E46 and in addition to it having a rare color combination, it’s only covered ~29,000 miles (~46,670 km). It’s hardly a surprise then that bidding on it has already reached $99,000, making it more expensive than a brand-new M3.

This M3 is painted in Laguna Seca Blue over a Cinnamon Nappa leather interior and is thought to be one of just 19 examples built in this configuration for the North American market. It remained with the original owner until earlier this year when it was purchased by the selling dealer.

While a new M3 is powered by a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged six-cylinder with 473 hp, the E46 M3 has a 3.2-liter naturally-aspirated six-cylinder capped at 333 hp and 262 lb-ft (355 Nm) of torque. While that’s quite a discrepancy, the older car has a more visceral character that a new M3 can’t match. Coupled to the 3.2-liter engine is a six-speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels.

The Bring a Trailer listing notes the car is fitted with the original 18-inch M double-spoke Style 67 wheels wrapped in 225/45 front and 255/40 rear Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. The exterior looks immaculate and it’s the same story with the cabin. Although the Cinnamon Nappa leather won’t be to everyone’s taste, it has been well-maintained over the past two decades and looks great. The seller notes the headliner was replaced this year while several trim pieces were refinished.

Mechanically, the M3 is in good condition. The seller says the double-VANOS system has been upgraded and the oil pump disc, exhaust sprocket hub, upper chain guide, VANOS seals, and differential pinion seals were all changed in preparation for the auction.

If you’re interested in bidding on this BMW M3, head over to Bring a Trailer before May 24.
