A black BMW has been badly damaged and part of a house trashed after a crash in the Swiss municipality of Schlossrued.

The incident occurred on May 22 at approximately 3:30 p.m. According to local media reports, the 79-year-old driver of the Beemer lost control when parking it at his house and smashed through a fence to his neighbor’s property. The car then hit a wall and the roof of what appears to be an outdoor seating area of the neighbor’s house.

Images shared online by the Cantonal Police in Aargau, show that part of the house’s roof has collapsed and fallen on the BMW. As for the BMW, we can see the windshield has been smashed and the passenger side likely took a hefty hit from the roof, although images don’t show the full extent of the damage here. Surprisingly, the driver’s side looks to have escaped without too much damage.

According to Bluewin, local authorities responded to the scene and believe the elderly driver may have mistaken the brake with the accelerator pedal. For some, this is an easy mistake to make and is a frequent cause of parking-related crashes like this. It’s understood police temporarily suspended the driver’s license after the crash. Fire crews also had to be called to the scene as a small amount of petrol leaked from the BMW.

The crash is thought to have caused CHF 100,000 ($109,000) worth of damage. Here’s hoping that the BMW was insured and that the insurer will pay to fix the damage done to the house.
