If you think VinFast is more influential than Tesla or Lucid, you’re in luck
- Time Magazine has released their list of the 100 most influential companies.
- Several automakers made the list including BYD, BMW, and Toyota.
- VinFast also appeared, despite being as influential as a washed up Vine star.
When you think about influential automakers, what companies spring to mind? Ford, General Motors, Tesla or Lucid?
Those would all be pretty good choices, but none of them made the list of Time’s 100 Most Influential Companies. Instead, the list is a hodgepodge of big names and nobodies.

Case in point, VinFast made the list. While the company might be important in Vietnam, it’s not really significant or influential elsewhere. Their cars have gotten terrible reviews and are only available in a handful of states. Sales are also said to be laughable and the company is rumored to be considering plans to delay production at a plant in North Carolina.
The other automakers on the list make more sense as they include BYD, BMW, and Toyota. Tata and Xiaomi are also there, but the magazine didn’t even mention Tata Motors or Jaguar Land Rover. Instead, the Tata blurb focused on iPhone assembly in India as well as AI hype.
Besides automakers, the list includes Waymo and Amazon, which owns Zoox. There’s also UPS and Highland Electric Fleets, which is said to operate the “largest electric school bus fleet in the U.S., with over 600 electric vehicles under contract in 30 states.”
Needless to say, the list wasn’t automotive focused and leaves something to be desired. With that in mind, who do you think are the most influential automakers?
