Volkswagen is celebrating the second annual VW Bus Day on June 2nd, and to commemorate it, the company is unveiling a new custom graphics program and merchandise inspired by the iconic Woodstock Light Bus. The inaugural VW Bus Day took place in 2023, celebrating decades of VW bus history and love with the introduction of the three-row ID. Buzz van. This year VW is ready to give the EV some style that’s only limited by your imagination.

The return of a traditional VW bus to the US market has been long overdue, but we’re closer than ever as the company has fully revealed the trims and colors that it’s bringing stateside. While pricing still eludes us, you’ll be able to opt for RWD or 335-horsepower AWD in addition to a plethora of luxury options that show VW has come a long way since the Type 2 Microbus. You’ll also be able to wrap your car in custom graphics in a first from a mainstream automaker.

Unlimited Wrapping Options

One of the most famous aspects of vintage VWs is their personalities, and VW is leaning into this hard with the new ID. Buzz thanks to a collaboration with Wrapmate. Utilizing the professional car-wrapping company’s decades of experience and over 2,000 certified installers nationwide, they’ve created a 3D configurator that will let ID. Buzz owners design their own custom wraps for their vans and then install them on their vehicles through a dealer. Unfortunately, this program is only available for the vans, so sorry for those wanting to get crazy with the new ID.4.

“This program not only allows ID. Buzz owners to express their individual style but also enhances the overall ownership experience by offering a way to customize the look of these exceptional vehicles,” – Chris Loar, CEO of Wrapmate.

All wraps will be created from premium 3M vinyl to ensure the vibrancy and durability of the design, but if you’re not looking to create something yourself, VW has you covered. The program will also include designs by artists and celebrities, with the first being a design called Love the Earth by Dr. Bob Hieronimus. He’s the man behind the Light Bus that debuted at Woodstock in 1969 and became an iconic symbol of the peace-loving 1960s.

Volkswagen Drivegear Collection

VW knows not everyone will be able to own an ID. Buzz van, so for them, it’s created a new Hieronimus branded collection that commemorates the iconography of the original Light Bus. For the 60th anniversary of Woodstock, he set about recreating it, and ended up making an entirely new Light Bus through the help of VW fans who helped to get the vehicle on the road.
