The hypercar industry has come a long way since the Ferrari LaFerrari launched in early 2013 and the Italian manufacturer continues to work on its long-awaited successor.

The new model, currently known as the F250, was recently filmed up close leaving the Ferrari factory bathed in camouflage and fitted with plenty of temporary body panels. It looks largely identical to the test mule our spy photographers snapped twelve months ago and appears to be made up of a whole bunch of random parts that Ferrari’s engineers could find.

Like the LaFerrari, the carmaker’s next-generation hypercar has a bulbous roof and windshield, not dissimilar to the shape found on a prototype race car. We can also see the front end sits very low and features large air outlets on the hood, and some active aero flaps hidden beneath the front grille to aid in aerodynamics.

Ferrari’s intriguing design details don’t end there. This prototype looks like it has butterfly doors, and the towering rear wing dominates the rear end. The test tries to trick us with two fake tailpipes at the back but the genuine exhausts are centrally mounted, just like they are in the 296 GTB.
Details about the powertrain have not been confirmed but the word on the street is that it’ll have a V6. Yep, Ferrari’s flagship hypercar won’t have a V12 like the new 12Cilindri or a V8 like the SF90 and instead, a V6, probably related to the engine found in the 296. We’re not sure how that news will go over with Ferrari buyers but the carmaker will probably try to convince them with a powerful hybrid setup. The car should produce well over 1,000 hp.
Reports from last year claimed the car would be unveiled towards the end of this year, although Ferrari has yet to confirm a launch date. Whenever the LaFerrari’s successor is launched, it will probably sell out in an instant.
