Bugatti Chiron’s V16 Successor Reveal Date Confirmed

We have just over a fortnight to prepare for the reveal of the most fascinating hypercar of the year.

Key Takeaways

  • Bugatti’s successor to the Chiron premieres June 20.
  • The hypercar draws inspiration from classic Bugatti models: Type 57 SC Atlantic, Type 41 Royale, and Type 35 Grand Prix.
  • The successor will feature a V16 engine without forced induction, promising over 1,000 horsepower.

Good news – we finally know when the successor to the inimitable Bugatti Chiron will be revealed: June 20. Bugatti confirmed the news while providing us with our very first look at the exposed bodywork. Little can be gleaned, but it’s clear that the trademark horseshoe grille will remain a prominent part of the front fascia, as will the Bugatti macaron, which reverts to its traditional red color scheme after the last-ever Chiron was revealed with a blue emblem to commemorate the original Geneva show car from 2016. Let’s take a closer look at the morsel Molsheim has provided us with and recap what is already confirmed about this truly unique hypercar.

Bugatti

Bugatti was founded as an automaker by an Italian-born designer named Ettore Bugatti in Molsheim, Alsace, when the French city was a German one in 1909. Bugatti created several successful cars for road and racing, but Ettore’s death in 1947 led to the company ceasing operations in 1952 before a short-lived revival in 1963. The brand was revived again in 1987, resulting in the EB110 GT, but the company we know today only appeared in 1998, when Volkswagen Group acquired the brand. In 2005, the Veyron arrived, setting the tone for Bugatti’s contemporary era.

An Incomparable Hypercar Inspired By The Classics

The short blurb for the teaser video tells us that the Chiron successor “is a completely bespoke design, engineered from the ground up on the three pillars of beauty, luxury, and performance,” adding that it draws inspiration from the beautiful Type 57 SC Atlantic (one of four ever made is owned by fashion icon Ralph Lauren), the exceptionally luxurious Type 41 Royale, and the Type 35, known as the most successful Grand Prix race car ever.

Like those cars, the Chiron successor will make use of chrome elements to create a luxurious ambiance before even entering the car, and once inside, that feeling of opulence will continue with a speedometer as intricate as a Swiss complication chronograph. The brief teaser video shows us this high-polished accent running along the middle of the hood, which appears to open, allowing occupants to fit a little bit of luggage on their continent-crossing grand tours.

What We Know So Far

The engine has been confirmed as a V16 without forced induction and will measure almost 40 inches long, making it a lengthier engine than the famed W16. Together with a hybrid component, the output will easily exceed 1,000 horsepower, although by how much exactly still remains to be seen. Spy shots of the new Bugatti have also revealed that this will be a more angular car than the Chiron, but it will retain the signature C-line. We’ll know more in just a couple of weeks when Molsheim once again sets the standard for ultra-luxury performance cars.
