Mercedes-Benz S-Class Spied With New Lights Ahead Of 2025 Refresh

Key Takeaways

  • The Mercedes S Class is undergoing a facelift with a focus on front and rear end changes.
  • The refresh will include new headlights, taillights, and possiblly interior technology updates.
  • Mercedes is adapting to market trends with more frequent updates to compete with rivals.

Our spy photographers have caught a camouflaged Mercedes-Benz S-Class testing out a new front and rear end, indicating more changes are coming for the German brand’s largest sedan. You may remember that the 2024 model received a very subtle update that mainly consisted of new colors and technology to keep the model fresh. Now it looks like Mercedes is aiming for the looks, with the lighting getting the bulk of the changes.

These shots come a couple of months after Mercedes unveiled a refresh of the EQS sedan that put it further in line with its combustion sibling given the model is going to stick around much longer than previously expected. These new changes to the S-Class are aiming to do the same thing, and this small update mirrors others we’ve seen recently, like with the GLE.

Fascia Facelifts

The camo strategically covers the front and rear of the model, with the center of the vehicle remaining unchanged for the time being. According to anonymous sources, this facelift will focus on these two exterior areas in addition to interior technology. On the outside, we believe the model will feature new headlights with star-shaped DRLs as well as alterations to the front bumper that will see the grille reach further down.

You can very easily make out the star elements in the taillights that are similar to the ones on the E-Class. Expect the bumper to also receive a bit of a nip and tuck. You can see a few coverings on the dash in the interior, and reports say it’s likely the sedan will receive a new steering wheel and possibly a larger screen. We imagine there will be MBUX updates as well.

More Frequent Updates

The automotive industry has changed pretty rapidly since the beginning of 2024, forcing automakers to adjust accordingly. The inevitable EV future isn’t arriving as rapidly as some would have hoped, and now companies like Mercedes are scrapping their previous plans in favor of more calculated approaches. The planned dedicated EV platform is no longer happening as the company opts instead for greater changes to the current EVA2 platform, so the EQE and EQS are here to stay.

The entire Mercedes lineup is also shrinking in favor of higher margin models, meaning vehicles like the S Class are going to become even more important to the brand over the next few years. There’s more pressure on the model to perform than ever before, so the company knows it needs to keep it fresh against impressive competitors. Expect this upcoming facelift to arrive by the end of 2024, just in time to launch for the 2025 model year.
