Ford Maverick Gets A New Face

Key Takeaways

  • Refreshed 2025 Ford Maverick spotted in a new color with a revised front end.
  • It shows off a new headlight design and a cleaner grille.
  • The 2025 Ford Maverick is expected to make its officila debut in the coming weeks.

Thanks to our eagle-eyed spy photographers, we have pictures of the refreshed Ford Maverick completely uncovered ahead of its debut in the coming weeks. The base XL model was caught driving into the Ford Motor Company Vehicle Operations General Office in Michigan sporting the new Eruption Green color. This indicates the model will see a revision to its color offerings when the vehicle arrives for the 2025 model year, but mechanically, we expect the pickup to be exactly the same.

Ever since the small-ish pickup arrived in 2022, it’s been a hit for the Blue Oval. America loves pickups, but our obsession with massive trucks feels partially manufactured by automakers refusing to sell us something without an average price upwards of $60,000. Fortunately, Ford came to its senses, and it appears others are going to follow in its footsteps. Not wanting to get caught on its back foot, this refresh aims to keep its model ahead of the pack.

Front End Sees Big Changes

It’s amazing what a new body panel can do, but breaking up the Maverick’s big block of headlights does a great job of making the pickup just that much more attractive, even in a base trim such as this. The basic halogen headlights now feature a talon shape, with the body panel coming up through them. The grille looks pretty similar to before, but the removal of the horizontal trim element gives it a much cleaner appearance, with the turn signals now integrated into the upper corner of the headlights.

Down the side, it’s still your average Maverick, and this appears to be true for the rear. While we don’t have any pictures of the interior, we’re expecting it to soldier on basically unchanged too. It looks like the company only wanted to change the part of the truck it felt like it didn’t get 100% right in the first place. Fortunately, it had the self-awareness to leave base model features, like the steel wheel,s alone, which we applaud.

No Messing With The Formula

Leaving the rest of the truck as it was is a smart move because buyers are simply flocking to Ford for the little pickup. So far, the truck is having an amazing year, having sold well over 10,000 units each month this year and peaking in March with 26,000 sales. We’re only halfway through 2024 and Ford has sold nearly 80,000, meaning it should handily beat out 2023 sales of the model which only reached 94,000.

With a little more versatility than an SUV but comparable efficiency, these pickups make competent lifestyle vehicles.

Its only real competition in the segment is the Hyundai Santa Cruz pickup, and despite offering similar unibody capability, sales of the Korean model are nowhere close to the Mavericks, with Hyundai only managing 14,000 US sales so far this year. Sales were down almost every month this year compared to last, with May being the only silver lining. A solid redesign hopes to give it the appeal it’s desperately looking for, but we believe Ford is going to have a little more luck in that department.
