Genesis Magma GV60 Testing Near Nürburgring

Key Takeaways

  • The Genesis Magma subbrand will feature high-performance models like the GV60 with bold designs.
  • The GV60 Magma concept is part of four Magma Program concepts unveiled with high-performance aspirations.
  • The GV60 Magma is expected to draw from the Ioniq 5 N, offering thrilling performance and luxurious features.

The Genesis Magma performance subbrand is heating up, as our spy photographers recently caught the GV60 Magma in all of its bright-orange glory on the streets around the Nürburgring. It’s immediately obvious this model is a Magma variant given its bold hue, but other details like the Ioniq 5 N brake calipers also indicate we’re looking at something with more power than usual.

We can’t remember the last time a mainstream brand stormed onto the scene with the confidence and volley of products of Genesis. In under 10 years, it’s built up a reputation for luxury and driving dynamics while expanding significantly across the country and breaking out from under the wings of its parent company, Hyundai. Now the Magma performance brand is arriving to help it compete against the likes of the BMW M and Mercedes-AMG with the GV60 leading the way.

What To See From The GV60 Magma

While Magma sounds cool rolling off of the tongue, it isn’t what most people think when they think of performance. Four concepts were unveiled a few months ago under the Magma Program – GV80 EV Coupe Concept, GV60 Magma Concept, G80 Magma Special and X Gran Berlinetta Concept – creating the starting point for the brand’s high-performance aspirations. No performance specifications have been unveiled yet for the combustion models, but thanks to what we know of the Ioniq 5 N, the GV60 production model should be a riot.

The spy pictures show off the model in its orange hue wearing basic GV60 front and rear bumpers, perhaps because the company is strictly working on performance at this time. The versions that debuted on the concept offered exaggerated venting that reminds us of the Lamborghini Urus, and the rear features a new diffuser with a large wing above. The wheels and calipers come straight off of the 5 N, giving us reason to believe this is a powertrain mule.

The Ioniq 5 N Offfers Plenty To Work With

Whether you’re talking about the Kia EV6 GT or the Ioniq 5 N, both E-GMP platform models offer thrilling performance that helps them to keep up with vehicles two times their price. While it took a little longer for the Ioniq 5 N to arrive, it was well worth the wait. We found it to be an absolute hoot to rip around the track, but a vehicle we anticipate will be an even better daily driver thanks to the 601 horsepower and 546 lb-ft of torque that can be called upon at any moment to make running errands that much more fun.

As Genesis works to prove itself a real competitor in the sports sedan segment, it’ll now tackle the Nürburgring to prove the G70’s credentials.

It’s completely unknown what kind of performance we can expect out of the GV60, but we wouldn’t be surprised if Genesis finds a little more standard power to keep its model a hair above the rest. We also expect the model to be much more nicely appointed, with ample leather and Alcantara sprinkled about to let you know you’re sitting in something with quite a bit of class. No release date has been announced yet, but don’t expect to see anything until mid-way through 2025 at the earliest.
