- Hennessey Venom F5 Revolution Carbon Series production process explained by Hennessey design boss.
- The rear bumper is the biggest single piece of carbon fiber in the auto industry.
- Hennessey plans to enter the high-end customization market with coachbuilt cars.
Early last year, Hennessey revealed the Venom F5 Revolution as a track-biased version of the existing F5, and then it took things to another level by announcing the Carbon Series, a run of just three Venom F5 Revolution models with a full carbon-fiber body. The first of these was commissioned by Michael Jordan and features yellow accents, while the second, now detailed in a video by Hennessey Director of Design Nathan Malinick, gets red detailing. In the clip, Malinick explains just how labor-intensive and time-consuming the process is and why.
A Perfect 45-Degree Angle
Malinick says that it took multiple trips to its carbon supplier and several experiments with its in-house team to perfect the process. In fact, Hennessey put together a “nearly 100-page book” explaining the weave direction, how to apply, sand, and polish the clear coat, and how to assemble the car.

This attention to detail has resulted in a perfect 45-degree angle for every strand of carbon fiber weave, says the designer, adding that every panel “lines up line for line.” This is most apparent along the spine of the car, where a herringbone pattern is created with millimetric precision. As you’d expect, the accents are also hand-painted, not applied as vinyl decals.
The Largest Piece Of Carbon Fiber
Hennessey claims that the rear bumper of the Venom F5 Revolution is the largest individual piece of carbon fiber in the automotive world, and to give it an even more special feel, this panel is CNC-milled to create heat extraction vents. Again, cutting the carbon fiber must be absolutely precise to avoid waste and repeat efforts – Hennessey says that it will reject any piece that’s not good enough.

Hennessey Special Operations Could Become America’s Own High-Performance Coach Builder
Hennessey’s new low-volume, high-performance division will try its hand at coachbuilt bodywork if you’re willing to bankroll it.
This is just the start of the Texas-based automaker’s foray into the world of high-end customization. Hennessey is becoming a serious supercar contender and is looking to create new coachbuilt cars to rival the world’s best. Beyond design customization, Hennessey will also gladly satisfy desires for a track-exclusive F5 if customers want it, and we can’t wait to see what comes next.
