Ford Mustang GTD Carbon Series Revealed With Supercar Interior

Key Takeaways

  • Ford Mustang GTD Carbon Series revealed with exposed carbon fiber hood, roof, and rear deck.
  • Six standard colors will be offered on GTD, including GTD-exclusive Chroma Flame.
  • Mustang GTD interior revealed with 3D-printed titanium elements, carbon fiber, and unique interfaces.

The Ford Mustang GTD is making its European debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race this weekend, and ahead of order applications opening for that market, the Blue Oval has revealed the cabin of its wild supercar for the first time, along with the standard exterior colors and a new Carbon Series option, which makes the street-legal GTD look even more like a racecar than it already did.

As a reminder, the GTD is targeting over 800 horsepower from its 5.2-liter supercharged V8 and a sub-7-minute lap time around the Nürburgring’s Northern Loop. Let’s take a closer look at the new information (and that spectacular paint).

At Least Six Colors To Choose From

Exclusive to the GTD is this new burgundy shade depicted in the images. It’s called Chroma Flame and will be one of six standard colors for the supercar. Presumably, customers will be able to choose from more, but this is yet to be confirmed. The list for now is as follows:

  • Chroma Flame
  • Polymimetic Gray
  • Race Red
  • Shadow Black
  • Frozen White
  • Lightning Blue

With the Carbon Series, the hood, roof, and rear deck of the GTD are left unpainted. Since the weave has to line up perfectly when the carbon fiber is left exposed, this is likely to be a costly option. Carbon Series vehicles also have the option of adding racing stripes in body color or a contrasting hue.

The Carbon Series also equips the GTD with a Magnetite finish for the wheels (which are either aluminum or magnesium). The 20-inch magnesium option is only available as part of the Performance pack, which adds dive planes and a larger splitter to the front end, flaps to the underbody, and an opening rear wing with DRS. The brake calipers come painted in either Grabber Blue, Race Red, or plain Black.

A Special Place To Sit

The interior has now been shown off, and as you’d expect for a car that costs over $300,000 (before any potential markups), the cockpit has been elevated beyond Dark Horse levels. Upgrades include a flat-bottomed steering wheel with a mix of leather, Dinamica suede, and carbon fiber. The spokes have GTD-specific buttons for adjusting the suspension stiffness and exhaust volume, but the most attractive element is doubtless behind the wheel. Here, 3D-printed titanium shifters have been created, and they look stunning. To match these, the rotary gear selector in the center console can be had in titanium, too.

In addition, two new buttons ahead of the gear selector provide convenient access to the Track Apps function and the nose-lift system, meaning you don’t have to draw the ire of following traffic by digging into a submenu on the touchscreen every time you encounter a speed bump. The Mustang GTD has also been enhanced with model-specific graphics for all interfaces; we’d have been very disappointed if the displays showed a regular Mustang on a car like this. Finally, there’s a new Performance cluster design that puts the tachometer in the center and focuses only on vital information that you need on a track: coolant and oil temperature, oil pressure, speed, selected gear, and fuel level. The GTD is shaping up to be a winner, and we hope to see it conquer the Nordschleife soon.
