Lease The New Honda Prologue For Less Than A Tesla Model Y

Key Takeaways

  • A new Honda Prologue lease is more affordable than a Tesla Model Y in select states with a $2,000 incentive and $7,500 tax credit.
  • It’s available in 15 states with a $399 per month lease and $3,999 due at signing along with a $1,000 loyalty discount for Honda owners.
  • The Prologue has less horsepower and a shorter range than the Model Y, but more space.

If you live in the right state, you may be able to get yourself into a new Honda Prologue with a lease for less than the Tesla Model Y lease. As reported by CarsDirect, dealers were just sent a bulletin that gave the new electric Honda SUV a $2,000 lease incentive that can be coupled with the $7,500 EV tax credit to make the vehicle a compelling buy in 2024.

Although the Prologue just arrived a couple of months ago, it appears Honda wants to keep the model competitive amid growing competition and a slowdown in the pace of EV sales growth. The Prologue and Acura ZDX arrive as parent company Honda’s first EVs and a lot is riding on their success. It appears the company isn’t taking any chances on pricing getting in the way.

How To Get This Deal

First and foremost, the deal is only available in 15 states – California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Texas, Vermont, and Washington – so if you reside outside of them, better luck next time. If you do live in one of those states, then you can couple the new deal with the EV tax credit to get the lease down to a mere $399 a month for 36 months with $3,999 due at signing.

This brings your effective monthly cost down to $510 a month, which beats out the Model Y’s current effective monthly cost of $513 a month, thanks to that model going for $399 a month for 36 months with $4,093 due at signing. What’s even better, is that if you’re already a Honda owner, you can get an extra $1,000 thanks to a loyalty discount, so your effective monthly cost could be as little as $480 if you play your cards right.

Honda Prologue Vs Tesla Model Y

Since it’s such a new model, many probably don’t know much about Honda’s first electric vehicle. Created out of a now-defunct partnership between Honda and GM, the EV features Ultium battery technology, slots above the CR-V, and is close in size to the Passport. It’s available in front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive but AWD only nets you 288 horsepower, which is only 76 more horsepower compared to the FWD version, and that version offers up to 296 miles of EPA-rated range.

It’s the biggest-ever automotive investment in Canadian history, with the production of EVs set to kick off in 2028.

Unfortunately, this is going up against the Tesla Model Y Long Range, which boasts up to 320 miles of range and 295 horsepower at the rear wheels. That’s a good amount of performance for not that much more money. The main benefits the Prologue has are its extra space and less company controversy. It that means enough for you to forgo more performance, we say jump on this deal ASAP.
