Nissan Dealer Thinks It’s 2021, Slaps $20k Markup On Z Nismo

  • Grieco Nissan in Delray Beach appears to have a $20,000 markup on a Z Nismo
  • Final pricing for one customer ended up barely shy of $100,000
  • That goes directly against what Grieco says on its own website.

The automotive industry might not be anything like it was a few years ago but some dealers can’t help themselves. They’re still stacking tens of thousands of dollars on cars as markups or market adjustments without shame. In the case of one Nissan dealer, its markup appears to fly in the face of its very own online promises. It tried to charge a customer $20,000 on top of the MSRP for a Z Nismo.

var adpushup = window.adpushup = window.adpushup || {que:[]};
adpushup.que.push(function() {
if (adpushup.config.platform !== “DESKTOP”){
adpushup.triggerAd(“4d84e4c9-9937-4f84-82c0-c94544ee6f2a”);
}
else{

adpushup.triggerAd(“6a782b01-facb-45f3-a88f-ddf1b1f97657”);
} });

The car in question is a new 2024 Z Nismo finished in Everest White and has an MSRP of $69,305, which is already a lot of cash. Considered the hottest version of the Z at this point in time, it comes with a limited-slip differential, bigger wheels, bigger brakes, and a few other improvements over the standard Z. Still, it’s sitting on a modified platform of the last-gen Z. In addition, it’s not a limited model like the Proto Z from 2023.

Those are just a few reasons the original poster of the spec sheet you see below was so surprised at the final price. Grieco Nissan added a $20,000 “Specialty Vehicle Adjustment” on top of what it calls the “Market Value Selling Price.” Ignoring the fact that the MVSP should technically just be the “market value,” it leaves us with a price of $89,305 but the charges don’t stop there.

window._taboola = window._taboola || [];
_taboola.push({
mode: ‘thumbnails-a-mid’,
container: ‘taboola-mid-article’,
placement: ‘Mid Article’,
target_type: ‘mix’
});

_taboola.push({
mode: ‘thumbnails-oc-2×1’,
container: ‘taboola-mid-article-thumbnails-organic’,
placement: ‘Mid Article Thumbnails Organic’,
target_type: ‘mix’
});

The dealer also adds a $999 fee for “dealer services” and doesn’t even offer to pay off this potential buyer’s remaining trade-in balance of $2,697. Add in the tax, and the price for this $69,305 sports car comes in at a whopping $99,453. Granted, some of that is, as mentioned, due to the owner being underwater on their trade-in.

Nevertheless, the dealer’s own website indicates that it would never do something like this. “At Grieco Nissan, we do not believe in artificially inflating our inventory prices. We DO NOT play pricing games…our goal is to make you a Grieco Customer for Life,” it says.

How do they make you a customer for life? Charge you a markup and interest big enough that you can’t pay it off til you die? It certainly isn’t by saying one thing online and then charging tens of thousands more when you show up at the dealership.

} });
