Ferrari SF90 Replacement Looks Business At The Front, Party At The Rear

Key Takeaways

  • The Ferrari SF90 replacement has been spied with a restrained front and aggressive rear styling.
  • Design cues from the SF90 XX are seen from the rear.
  • It’s still expected to arrive as a plug-in hybrid sports car, with a V8 engine for its ICE component.

Ferrari has been working on a replacement for the SF90 Stradale since last year, and now it’s time to see a prototype on the road. Our spies in Maranello recently caught one while testing, and despite the heavy concealment, we see a tinge of restraint at the front, while the rear end hints at aggressive styling.

Differing from the upcoming LaFerrari replacement we saw recently, the so-called SF100 here appears to have a plain front, like the 296 GTB. Also taken from the 296 are the placeholder double-spoke alloys wrapped in Michelin rubbers on the prototype. Ferrari has done a great job covering the front lighting elements, though rumors from Italy tell us they will be sleek and elegant in contrast with the outgoing SF90.

It Gets Wild After The A-Pillar

The story progresses toward the rear half of the prototype. An obvious hump can be seen being covered right above the greenhouse, while supposedly larger side intakes are largely covered with thick panels to hide the contour.

The rear part’s interesting, too. The huge twin exhaust pipes look lifted from the SF90, but the LED light bar peeking out of the holes is reminiscent of the lap record-setting SF90 XX. The rear spoiler’s heavily covered, too, while the depressed engine bay suggests a Spider version of the SF100 is also on the cards.

Maranello won’t allow fake engine sounds in its cars, so it will use aero and other tricks to create an exciting noise.

When Is It Coming?

Speaking of the power plant, the SF90 replacement will still be a plug-in hybrid sports car. The caught prototype here has what appears to be a “high voltage” sticker on the windshield, presumably covered. A V8 engine is expected to be the ICE part of this electrified setup.

The SF90 was introduced in 2019, so its replacement will likely arrive in the next year or so. It won’t be part of the three launches the Prancing Horse brand is planning this year, which also includes the LaFerrari successor.
