An Electric Mercedes-AMG C63 Is Coming

Key Takeaways

  • New Mercedes-AMG C-Class EV spied.
  • Aggressive canards, large wheels, and powerful brakes hint at increased performance.
  • Bulky arches widen track for improved stability.
  • Reveal expected in 2025.

Spy photographers have caught a new vehicle on camera for the first time: the Mercedes-AMG take on the upcoming electric C-Class. We spied the regular C-Class sedan earlier this year, revealing what appeared to be a more conventional body shape than Merc’s existing electric sedans like the EQS and EQE. We also saw the cabin, with no apparent physical controls but plenty of screen real estate. Now, the AMG version’s exterior has been spotted, and it shows several notable differences, including fancier wheels, better brakes, and a few aerodynamic upgrades like we’re used to seeing on Black Series AMG models.

An Aggressive EV

Like the normal C-Class we’ve seen previously, the AMG variant is not wearing its production taillights and the entire body is draped in camouflage. However, the AMG model is temporarily fitted with a large lip spoiler, and the arches are clearly bulkier. Mercedes has fitted fake creases and bulges under the camo, but it’s clear that this has a wider body than the regular car. Those arches are filled with large lightweight wheels, behind which big bronze calipers slow the EV.

Interestingly, we can’t see any obvious diffuser elements at the rear, but the front is certainly being optimized for aerodynamics with the appearance of canards at either end of the front fascia. The downturned lower intake grille also appears more aggressive. As for the headlights, these are also pre-production units, but their overall shape is not totally alien, calling to mind the W203 C-Class.

More High-Performance Electric AMG Sedans Coming

Although the broader market has fallen out of love with sedans, replacing them with crossovers and SUVs, it appears that Mercedes customers are still keen on the four-door three-box body style. Besides the electric C-Class and its AMG sibling, The Mercedes-AMG Vision Concept will reportedly come to life in 2025 as an electric take on the larger-than-C-Class AMG GT 4-Door. The existing combustion car produces as much as 831 horsepower, so the EV alternative will surely be even crazier. As for the electric AMG C-Class, all we can assume is that we’ll get more than the 671 hp offered by the current 2.0-liter hybrid four-pot. A reveal is due next year, too, so we should get more revealing details trickling out of Affalterbach before long.
