Key Takeaways

  • GM Design reveals a never-before-seen Cadillac coupe concept that could have rivaled German luxury offerings.
  • The concept influenced the design of current Cadillac models like the CT5, but unfortunately, it was never put into production.
  • The elegant concept features a clean design, muscular lines, and a luxurious interior.

Luxury coupes are a dying breed, but there’s still a niche market for these vehicles. General Motors once considered entering this segment with a striking Cadillac two-door. The company even created a gorgeous concept but kept it under wraps – until now. GM Design showcased the stunning ‘expressive coupe’ design study, which could have debuted as an Audi A5 or Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe rival. Previously, the automaker gave us a glimpse into the secret PEV2 and PEV3 concepts.

General Motors hasn’t shared much about the concept but notes that the striking coupe was “created as an internal exploration of Cadillac aesthetics.” Even though it remained a secret for so long, the automaker says the elegant two-door shaped its current portfolio of cars, such as the recently facelifted CT5 V-Blackwing and CT5.

Cadillac’s Best-Looking Car Was Hidden Until Now

There’s no denying that the CT5 – particularly the V Blackwing – is a good-looking car, but it’s nothing like the Cadillac coupe concept in terms of grandeur. It’s rather refreshing, but the front fascia isn’t dominated by a vulgar, oversized grille. The sporty grille is flanked by slim hockey stick-shaped headlights, with a similar motif applied to the chrome trim around the air vents.

A long hood with prominent power bulges radiates elegance and power, suggesting this could have been Cadillac’s answer to larger coupes like the Mercedes S-Class and Bentley Continental GT, albeit at a fraction of the cost. Viewed from the side, clean, uncluttered lines and multispoke alloy wheels add to the look. The glasshouse is elegant, while the roof and strong shoulder lines add a muscular feel. The rear fascia has an integrated spoiler with what appears to be a hatchback.

Cadillac Has A Habit Of Creating Gorgeous Concepts And Not Building Them

The taillights feature crisp detailing reminiscent of the latest batch of Cadillac EVs, such as the upcoming Optiq SUV. Sadly, Cadillac decided not to put this stunning machine into production, focusing instead on crossovers, sedans, and SUVs. The automaker has abandoned several gorgeous concepts, including the Cien supercar, the Ciel, and the incredible Sixteen. It would have been great if this could have debuted as a modern-day Eldorado.

Cadillac Unveils Special Edition Blackwings To Celebrate The Time It Shocked Le Mans

The luxury marque entered the Le Mans for the first time in the most peculiar way.

Inside, the design is more subdued, with a minimalist dashboard layout and simplified controls. A silver-finished rotary gear selector is set in a black leather console. Lashings of hide are present throughout the interior, along with touches of open-pore wood trim, metalized wood trim, and rather cool-looking seatbelt buckles, which complete the look. It’s a shame that this concept never came to fruition. Then again, it looks like GM is done with coupes, as even the Camaro has been discontinued. But who knows? Perhaps one day, in the electric future, Cadillac could treat us to something just as gorgeous and desirable. We just hope this concept is preserved for future generations, but we’re not holding out much hope. GM recently destroyed two special concepts, so this sleek coupe may have the same fate someday.
