Mansory Shows Brabus How To Make Power With Mercedes-AMG S63 E-Performance

Key Takeaways

  • Mansory’s P950 delivers 937 mechanical horsepower and 1,154 lb-ft of torque, offering 20 hp more than the Brabus alternative.
  • Upgrades focus on combustion engine with bigger turbos and new ECU.
  • 0-62 mph in 2.8 seconds; top speed of 199 mph.

Last year, Mansory created the P880, a heavily modified take on the already insanely powered Mercedes-AMG S63 E Performance. As standard, this ridiculous luxury limo produces 791 hp, and Mansory’s take pushed that to 868 ponies. But then Brabus entered the S63 chat last month, unleashing a 917-hp take on the AMG sedan with 1,114 lb-ft of torque.

Mansory clearly didn’t take kindly to being bested as it has now revealed the P950, which produces – you guessed it – 950 metric horsepower. In our money, that’s 937 hp garnished with a whopping 1,154 lb-ft of torque. We feel for all four tortured tires.

Mechanical Upgrades

As with the P880, the P950 leaves the electric element of the plug-in hybrid powertrain untouched, focusing only on the combustion engine. To improve its performance, a new electronic control unit with custom tuning has been fitted, as have high-performance catalytic converters with greater flow than the OEM units. The two turbochargers on the 4.0-liter V8 have also been swapped out for something bigger, which helps make the difference over the P880. With an integrated airbox, multiple high-speed pulls should be possible with minimal loss of performance due to heat soak.

Power is directed to a set of forged alloy FD.15 wheels measuring 9 inches wide in front and 10.5 inches wide at the rear, both with a diameter of 22 inches. The result is the ability to sprint from rest to 62 mph in 2.8 seconds (two-tenths quicker than standard) and on to a top speed of 199 mph, which is the same ballpark in which the Porsche 911 Turbo S and some bona fide supercars play.

Improved Performance, Worsened Aesthetics

Mansory claims refined aerodynamics for the S63’s body but does not specify exactly where the improvements lie. Nevertheless, we doubt aero efficiency is something any Mansory buyer considers. The P950 gets a new front apron with an integrated lip and side flaps made of carbon fiber, the same material from which the vented hood has been fashioned. The side skirts are also made from full carbon fiber, along with the fender accents that we wish we had never seen. A new carbon spoiler also sits on the tailgate, and you can have the rear fascia with or without a central brake light. Roof spoilers, mirror caps, and additional intake accents can also be fitted. Inside, Mansory retrims the entire cabin in leather, restitches the seams in your chosen color, and fits carbon fiber inlays, new floor mats, a carbon steering wheel, and aluminum pedals with Mansory logos. Pricing is a mystery, as is Mansory’s definition of restraint.

The Sterrato was fitted with hardy plastics to encourage off-roading, but Mansory thinks forged carbon fiber is a better option (spoiler: it’s not).
