 This Mazda MX-5 Has Confused Its NAs With Its NDs

  • This heavily modified Miata has been driven around 115,000 miles (~185,000 km).
  • Beyond the bespoke bodykit, it includes coilovers, an aftermarket intake, and an LSD.
  • The $10,800 asking price is on the higher side but typical for used 1991 Miatas.

Affordable and accessible sports cars don’t get much better than the Mazda MX-5 Miata, but a rather peculiar example has surfaced on Facebook Marketplace. This particular Miata, a 1991 NA generation, has undergone a transformation to mimic the appearance of a 2023 Miata ND. While the alterations certainly make it stand out, they may limit its appeal.

The front end of the smurf blue Miata is relatively inoffensive, although we’re not sure the blue-tinted pop-up headlights were necessary. The elongated front splitter also looks a little excessive, but each to their own, I suppose. The more intriguing modifications become visible when the car is viewed from the side.

Each corner features aftermarket wheels with silver and black spokes, while the original rear quarter panels have been replaced with significantly wider ones. The Mazda then rocks a large ducktail spoiler on the tailgate and rocks a bumper and taillights very similar to the current Miata ND. However, the lights look to be cheap imitations rather than OEM units.

Plenty more has been done to ruin ‘improve’ the car. There’s a 10-point roll cage, a new soft-top, and an aftermarket steering wheel. The seller notes the sports car has also been upgraded with coilover suspension, an aftermarket intake, and a limited-slip differential, parts that should make it a little more thrilling to drive. The listing adds the ND-inspired bodykit is a one-off and that the car has a clean title and a clean Carfax.

So, how much will you pay for this overhauled 1991 Mazda MX-5 Miata driven ~115,000 miles (~185,000 km)? Well, the seller is asking $10,800. That’s not an unreasonable amount of money to ask for given that of the 10 used 1991 Miatas we found on AutoTrader, prices vary between $7,995 and $28,000, depending on mileage.  

Whether it’s worth the asking price depends largely on your appetite for a uniquely altered classic sports car.
