Ferrari has officially opened its new facility called “e-building,” which will produce the Prancing Horse brand’s first electric vehicle alongside upcoming internal combustion engine and hybrid models. The inauguration event was graced by the presence of Italian President Sergio Mattarella and Ferrari executives.

Ferrari

Ferrari is an Italian manufacturer of sports cars, supercars, and luxury grand tourers founded by and named after Enzo Ferrari in 1939 – originally as Auto Avio Costruzioni due to legal complications with Alfa Romeo. Ferrari famously only produced roadgoing sports cars as a means of funding its racing exploits, which include multiple F1 World Championships and wins at Le Mans and various other prestigious races. Today, Ferrari is one of the most valuable brand names in the world, limiting production of its highly-sought-after models to maintain desirability, which is in no short supply when they’re powered by some of the world’s most advanced V6, V8, and V12 engines.

“We are honored to have President Mattarella with us for the inauguration of the e-building, a plant that combines the centrality of the people in the workplace with respect for the environment,” said Ferrari’s President, John Elkann. “Investing in our territory is essential to prepare ourselves for Ferrari’s future with confidence and confirms our commitment to Italian excellence and to our country.”

State-Of-The-Art Facility

Located in Maranello, the Ferrari e-building marks the automaker’s largest expansion in recent times. The 50,830 square-yard facility houses the production of all future Ferrari sports cars and supercars, including its first EV. Ferrari added that electrical components, including high-voltage batteries, electric motors, and axles, would be produced in-house, while a dedicated training space for its employees would also be available.

The automaker said that the e-building will be powered entirely by renewable energy, generated internally – via more than 3,000 solar panels installed on the roof that produce 1.3 megawatts of power – and external sources. Ferrari’s production cycles will also reuse rainwater and energy. For example, Ferrari said that 60% of the energy used for battery and motor testing would be recovered and reused in other processes.

Ferrari’s First EV

Ferrari’s first battery-electric vehicle is expected to be revealed next year, with production slated to begin early in 2026. While official details are scarce, we know from the grapevine that this Italian EV will truly be a Ferrari, retaining the marque’s exclusivity and sky-high pricing. Recent reports claim it will be priced around $535,000, or even pricier than the newly unveiled 12Cilindri.
