Infiniti Sales Drop 14.6% In Q2, But New QX80 Could Salvage Things

The redesigned QX80 arrives later this month and will bring fresh blood to desperate Infiniti dealers

Infiniti Sales Drop 14.6% In Q2, But New QX80 Could Salvage Things

  • Infiniti’s sales in the first half of 2024 dropped 13.2% from a year ago.
  • The brand’s best-selling vehicle was the three-row QX60.
  • Despite going out of production in 2022, dealers sold 11 Q60 coupes.

After years of neglect, Infiniti dealers have something to be excited about as the redesigned QX80 will arrive later this month. When it does, it will start at $82,450 and give the brand a much-needed boost.

It can’t come soon enough as Infiniti’s aging lineup is about as attractive as last week’s tofu. The numbers tell the story as Infiniti’s second quarter sales dropped 14.6% from a year ago. As a result, the luxury brand only sold 14,123 units in the past three months.

Year-to-date numbers aren’t much better as they’re down 13.2% from a year ago. With just 28,027 units sold in the first six months, Infiniti is miles behind rivals such as Cadillac (73,906) and Lexus (134,383).

Infiniti’s best-selling vehicle in the second quarter was the QX60 as the three-row crossover racked up 7,081 sales. It was followed by the QX50 (2,587) and QX80 (2,243). The ancient Q50 is still hanging on, although it only generated 1,442 sales.

Infiniti U.S. Sales

That’s disappointing, but it still managed to beat the QX55 crossover coupe. Once hailed as a successor to the iconic FX, the model has bombed with consumers and only 759 units were sold in the second quarter.

Speaking of coupes, Infiniti sold 11 Q60s in the past three months. That’s pretty surprising when you consider the luxury coupe went out of production in 2022.

Out of curiosity, we did a quick search online and found four new 2022 Q60s at U.S. dealers. Three of them are listed at MSRP, but Infiniti of Nashua has a $7,418 discount on their Q60 LUXE AWD. This knocks the price down to $52,442 which is about the same as a 2024 Nissan Z Performance.
