Bespoke Mercedes-Maybach S680 Is Basically A Land Yacht

  • Maybach’s Manufaktur department created a one-off S680 inspired by a 1939 racing yacht.
  • The luxury sedan is finished in a two-tone Nautical Blue and Patagonia Red exterior with a pinstripe.
  • The bespoke Mercedes-Maybach S680 has already been sold to an unnamed customer.

In a move that’s sure to set every oligarch’s yacht club abuzz, Mercedes-Maybach has unveiled a one-off S-Class meticulously crafted to evoke the spirit of… a 1939 racing yacht. Yes, you read that right. To celebrate the 150th anniversary of Robbe & Berking, the Flensburg-based silversmiths, this bespoke S-Class pays homage to a very specific (and frankly, niche) source of inspiration.

adpushup.que.push(function() {
if (adpushup.config.platform !== “DESKTOP”){

}
else{

} });

Based on the ultra-luxurious Mercedes-Maybach S680, the homage comes in the form of a two-tone exterior: Nautical Blue Metallic sets the stage, while a splash of Patagonia Red evokes the high seas separated, of course, by a pinstripe as delicate as a seashell, rendered in Opalite White Metallic.

The 21.48 m (70.47 feet) long Sphinx yacht was built in 1939 by the Abeking & Rasmussen boatyard. Over the years, it changed hands several times, but since 2005 it has been restored to its former glory. One of its current owners, Oliver Berking, is the founder of Robbe & Berking Classics yacht shipyard in Flensburg, which is collaborating with Maybach.

The matching Maybach features an interior even more special than the exterior, which is quite the feat considering the yachting theme plastered on the outside. Seats, headliner, door panels, and even the storage cubby are all swathed in Maybach Manufaktur Exclusive nappa leather – Crystal White, no less – with a generous helping of diamond quilting. Orion Grey stitching adds a touch of… well, let’s just say it keeps things interesting.

No nautical homage is complete without a generous dose of wood paneling, and this Maybach doesn’t disappoint. Walnut wood inserts, meticulously crafted to resemble a ship’s deck, complete with aluminum trim strips, for that extra touch of authenticity, dominate the interior.

Don’t worry, though, seasickness shouldn’t be an issue – the seats are upholstered in matching Crystal White nappa leather with a liberal application of diamond quilting. Just in case you forget what brand of land yacht you’re piloting, Maybach lettering illuminates the side sills.

Under the hood lies the twin-turbo 6.0-liter V12, producing 603 hp (450 kW / 612 PS) and 900 Nm (664 lb-ft) of torque. Besides the flagship S680 trim, the Maybach S-Class is also available in S580 form with a twin-turbo V8, and in the China-exclusive S480 with an inline-six. Finally, there is the S580e with a plug-in hybrid system based around a six-cylinder engine.

Maybach didn’t disclose the pricing of the bespoke S680, nor did they reveal the name of the owner, who must love the art of sailing as much as being chauffeured in luxury sedans.
